Aspen Education Group / Re: Mount Bachelor could reopen

Which "DHS statement" is that?  I don't see any link or evidence that DHS ever had this deliberation or made this commentary.  Their comments do say that their original actions were justified though.

This poster seems to have an interest in putting words in DHS's mouth.  They never said any of those things.  They're made up by the poster.  I see s/he has dropped the earlier factless assertion that "DHS admitted no abuse occurred."  That one was a whopper, too.

Is there some sort of financial motive for this poster to keep making up these "DHS statements" that never happened?

Now that DHS has reversed their decision and found no abuse occurred...

I see this poster still repeating this claim without any evidence.  Do you have an official statement from DHS that says that "no abuse occurred" or is this just made up?  It looks made up to me.  There's no documentation that even remotely approaches this statement.  That, IMHO, is a big hit on this poster's credibility.  It looks like s/he is trying intentionally to pull off some sort of scam.

Is there some financial motive for this poster to keep repeating this obvious falsehood with no proof?

Oops, sorry all.  The three schools Whooter recommended as "safe and helpful" were;
Swift River Academy; http://cafety.org/index2.php?option=com ... f=1&id=279
Aspen Ranch; http://www.heal-online.org/aspenranch.htm
School of Urban Wilderness Survival; http://www.secretprisonsforteens.dk/US/Suws.htm

Thank you for posting this disturbing factual information about the so-called "safe" programs, Shadyacres.

It is well known that the Aspen Education Group programs are some of the worst in operation.  Their facility Mount Bachelor Academy was shut down for systemic child abuse last year by Oregon DHS authorities.  Aspen has had many abuse problems and several negligent deaths at their facilities (e.g. Sagewalk - shut down after killing a child last year).  Parents would do well to avoid AEG programs which are proven to be abusive and deadly.

Not sure why anyone would call those programs "safe."  Maybe the recommender has a financial interest in those dangerous programs?  Anybody know?

I was wondering why you were making up false allegations to smear a program survivor.  Is it just because you disagree with shaggy and RobertBruce or because they weren't powerless and stood up to their program abusers?

I thought we were past your denigrating baseless commentary about people you never met, but I guess we're right back to it.

If you want I can teach you how to overcome your powerlessness.  It's not easy for someone like you, but it can be done.  First, put down the dope and booze for a while so we can formulate a clear plan.  Then, after we're complete, you can use alcohol and horse in moderation and not be powerless over them and everything else in your life.  We'll help you out, dude.

Heck, I just harvested some intense greens and I only smoke it before bed.  See?  It's not that hard.

Once more, you only present the biased statement of AEG's president.  Do you really expect people to believe that statement as representative of the facts?  Until such a time you can provide the settlement agreement you can save your opinions for the opinion page.

Readers want facts not your spin on what another spinner is saying.

I have no connection to MBA nor have I ever had any connection, so trying to characterize my motivations is just more spin on top of spin and just tactit admission you have no evidence to support your specious claims.

Clearly you have no facts or documents, so we'll just have to wait until you provide them.  Right now all we have is the state's substantiated abuse cases for which MBA was shuttered.  I have seen zero refutation of those facts.

Let's see that settlement agreement, Whooter.  Not presenting it is the same as admitting you have no facts, so that's where we all are until you can actually provide evidence to support AEG's and your assertions.  You have no facts and are continuously admitting it.

Show us the legal document in which DHS claims "there was never any abuse at MBA" as you claim they admitted.

This:

Now that the investigation has been completed they realize that no abuse occurred.
...is an awfully sweeping claim to be made with zero evidence.  I think this is why people here view your posts with suspicion.  You never have any evidence to support your claims and then just attack people for asking for the evidence you claim to have.

I'll be waiting patiently for you to post the settlement agreement or withdraw your obviously specious claim above.  Please, no more personal attacks, just evidence.

Just keep asking for the settlement documents that he claims to be quoting from and when he fails to produce any we can all accurately conclude he just made it up like just about everything else he posts here.

He doesn't have any documents to support his suppositions and he knows that so he will just keep posting the AEG statement and calling it a "fact" while he tries to attack people who are asking for actual evidence.  He knows he's dead in the water already.

Well, I don't accept those tall tales he spins as facts.  I will agree with him once he provides the source documents from the settlement that he alleges to be quoting, but isn't.  So he will post those docs when he has them and until then he is just weaving a yarn, like so many times before, along with AEG and a lone program parent.

Anne, Povich is a program partent whose kid was sent home from MBA after it was closed for abuse.

@Whooter - In other words, you have no documentation showing that "DHS found no abuse."  Just posting what a program parent and AEG's president say do not an admission or finding of fact make, sorry.

When you produce a copy of the settlement,in its entirety, then we can look at that.  Right now all we have is AEG's admission that DHS had probable cause to investigate and that MBA did not dispute the findings of abuse.  All we have is a civil case closed with undisclosed terms and some spin from the party caught abusing kids.

So go ahead and post the settlement agreement and we can pick this up there.  Otherwise, you're just making up your own "facts" with nothing to back them up.  We're patient.  Post those docs and we'll have a look.

If a child comes forward and says they were abused at a program then all parties agree that warrants reasonable cause to investigate.  Aspen agrees that the state had reasonable cause to investigate also.  No one is refuting this.
Now that the investigation has been completed they realize that no abuse occurred.

“The DHS’ withdrawal of its order suspending MBA’s license supports our position that they did not have justification for that order in the first place. The DHS has acknowledged with this settlement that in fact there was additional evidence no abuse had occurred.”

I think we can all agree that DHS admits that they have the childrens best interest in mind.  So they wouldnt ignore children being abused in their state and walk away.

...

A little context is in order:

"A statement from Phil Herschman, President of Aspen Education Group, on behalf of Mount Bachelor Academy:" should precede the misleading quote from last post.

Whooter opines that this statement means abuse allegations were false, but what it actually says is that the state did not review evidence claiming what happened was not abuse, but nowhere does this statement say or imply that the kids who reported abuse were lying or that the state did not uncover rampant abuse - they did.

The state believed them, investigated and MBA was closed for abusing kids.  Then MBA sued the state, and probably agreed to pay a massive undisclosed fine in exchange for the state softening the charges.

This is legal spin from the party who was caught abusing kids and got exposed for it.  This statement by AEG's PR team is damage control only.

It's not going anywhere.

It will be interesting to see how the investigation concludes and if they will retain the name "Mount Bachelor Academy".  That name may be considered tarnished at this point.
I think you meant "god caught", but otherwise, you're probably right about that.  I would highly doubt that they would keep their name considering the amount of bad publicity surrounding their "LifeSteps".  I mean i've used the school as an example time and time again.  My guess is they won't even stop practicing LifeSteps.  They'll probably just rename it something else.

Actually, in this case, the state found that after being barred from using LifeSteps from previous state investigations MBA continued to practice them with a different name, but identical process.  So, that already happened, Psy.

MBA acknowledged that, based on the evidence available to DHS on November 2, 2009, the agency had reasonable cause to believe that abuse or neglect occurred at the school, as uncovered in the investigation.

In addition, MBA agrees that DHS had a reasonable basis to investigate the allegations of abuse and neglect and to seek corrective actions.

There is nothing where any of this points to "kids made up abuse."  It is explicit that MBA admitted the investigation was proper and abuse was found and corrective action was required.  To say otherwise is simply false.

Abuse was found and MBA was closed for it.  Nothing has changed except apparently a couple of lawsuits were filed and dropped.

Just for clarification sake for those of you who don't actually have the insight that I do, the majority of the students at RCS are actually NOT inner city. Another point is that my daughter attended that school and luckily we were able to get her out of there. All of this is true, as well as incident in Dec. with my daughter, where she was severely beaten, at the same time as a counselor. Gues who had to pay the medical expenses ? I did, because the privacy rights, of the other student had to be protected, as well as even though inadequate staffing allowed for this to occur, RCS did not pay.
Two points : 1) after reading these posts I definitely am pursuing legal action. 2) This school needs to be shut down immediately.
The kids are running that place. Nearly all the kids are having sex in the dorms, in the bathrooms at the SAC, in the bathrooms in the "school" bldg, everywhere !
Poor education, unqualified staff, abuse and many other incidents.

Some families are selling their homes and spending life savings to send their children there. Obviously filing complaints does not work. I also have reason to believe drug trafficking as I have filed complaints on this already. Complete mismanagement of medication, unmarked bottles, little baggies of drugs and no original prescriptions to be found. I gladly will provide more information on the specifics of the numerous incidents at RCS. All the children's health and safety are in danger there. Due to confidentiality, I have no contact information for any other parents, but to hope that they google and find this site.

Nov 2009 to May 31, 2010 my daughter was at that "school". I am now paying for counseling for her to be treated for the trauma received from that school, in addition to the issues that were present prior to her attending.

Having met many of the parents, during this time, they are most definitely not inner city. It is a sad situation. I do hope that this school gets shut down as soon as possible, and hopefully can refund me some of my money to put towards continued care now. Any attorney's please feel free to send me your information. So far the two I have seen are in LA and TX. I am in Nashville, TN.
