Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Diacetyl Morphine
« on: February 02, 2004, 05:25:00 AM »
Fentanyl and heroin are 2 structurally different molecules. Heroin is metabolized into morphine and 6-monoacetylmorphine. Fentanyl is related to the phenylpiperidine class of opioids (meperidine or Demerol is the prototype). Both are lipid-soluble (cross BBB rapidly) and act primarily at mu receptors (analgesia, respiratory depression, constipation). Fentanyl is 100 times as potent as morphine, while heroin is about twice as potent as morphine. Fentanyl has a much shorter duration of action than heroin, but has a longer plasma half-life. Lipid solubility, pharmacokinetics (what the body does to the drug), potency, and affinity for opioid receptors are probably all involved in how easy it is to become physically addicted. This is why Xanax is so addictive, while Ativan is much less so.

What about getting the lopsided chair--the one where the seat was slanted forward from all that motivating? Ugh!

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Excorcism Kills Child in Atlanta
« on: January 23, 2004, 07:54:00 PM »
This child was murdered by her psychotic, mentally ill parents. Schizophrenic and bipolar psychoses frequently manifest as religious ideation or rituals. Thanks to Geraldo Rivera's "civil rights" efforts back in the 80's, the state mental health system (at least in Georgia) has completely deteriorated. Psychiatric patients in need of hospitalization were turned out into the streets--anyone who lives in Atlanta is aware of the everpresent homeless population. I think it's shameful that Americans do not have equal access to decent healthcare. It's equally disturbing that the other 2 children are in state custody. Georgia's DFCS system is a crock--there are quite a few children who have died here in state foster care.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Abortions
« on: September 08, 2003, 07:21:00 PM »
I never heard of anyone being forced to have an abortion in Atlanta. However, any young woman who was bleeding outside her normal period should have received an immediate medical evaluation. There are several types of abortion, ranging from threatened abortion--cervix closed w/bleeding (most amenable to treatment)to inevitable abortion--cervix open w/bleeding & visible uterine contents (requires dilatation & curettage).

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Where are the children?
« on: July 16, 2003, 10:04:00 AM »
Maybe this'll comfort you a little. My twin boys, about to turn 13, are avid hunters and fishermen. My husband has taught them everything he knows a bout nature, and it amazes me that they can identify birds flying overhead. They help me bait my hooks because I don't like worms. They are primitive campers, can pitch their own tents, and build a campfire. They are learning archery. They also love skateboarding and Marvel comics. They're both very artistic and make up their own cartoons. They are fun as hell to be around. They love Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, and Jimi Hendrix. They've got some really nice friends. They're easy going and mellow. I don't know what the next few years will be like, but somehow, I don't think they'll be too bad. I think they're awesome.

Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / When do parents tell?
« on: June 30, 2003, 08:49:00 PM »
I have 13 year old twin boys. When I found this site almost a year ago, I was intent on telling them about Straight. However, after much deliberation, I decided that I will tell them if there comes a time when this information would be helpful to them somehow. For me, it's important to have some boundaries in terms of self-disclosure and not to burden them as they head into adolescence. Right now, in their lives and in mine, the time is not right. Good luck with your kids. Kris

You're gonna do great. You're going to feel so much better once the source of your problems is diagnosed and treated. Versed is good, and so is Propofol. You shouldn't remember a thing. I think it's normal and healthy to be anxious. If you're still anxious or have ?s on scope day, make sure and talk with your doc before you get sedated. Kris

JD, you totally missed the point! Look through old posts and you'll find numerous comparisons between Nazi Germany, Straight, and anything else someone decides to get on a soapbox about. I'm sorry, but there really is no comparison, and it disrespects those who suffered and those families who are still suffering. I can accept a comparison between Nazi Germany and what happened over in Bosnia, Croatia, etc. because it fits. However, it's melodramatic and irresponsible to compare the oppression of pot-smokers with the plight of those who perished at the hands of the Nazis.

Gimme a break...how can you compare the systematic near-extermination of a group of people with something as trivial as this????!!!!!!
I speak for those of us whose families ACTUALLY suffered at the hands of the Nazis!!! You have no idea what you're talking about! Anyone who's ever been to Oswiecim (Auschwitz) would agree (I have been there TWICE). Get over yourselves!
