Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Preacherman, don't tell me,
Heaven is under the earth.
I know you don't know
What life is really worth.
It's not all that glitters is gold;
'Alf the story has never been told:
So now you see the light, eh!
Stand up for your rights. Come on!

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies,
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high.
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth:
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights. Jah!

Get up, stand up! (Jah, Jah!)
Stand up for your rights! (Oh-hoo!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Don't give up the fight! (Life is your right!)
Get up, stand up! (So we can't give up the fight!)
Stand up for your rights! (Lord, Lord!)
Get up, stand up! (Keep on struggling on!)
Don't give up the fight! (Yeah!)

We sick an' tired of-a your ism-skism game -
Dyin' 'n' goin' to heaven in-a Jesus' name, Lord.
We know when we understand:
Almighty God is a living man.
You can fool some people sometimes,
But you can't fool all the people all the time.
So now we see the light (What you gonna do?),
We gonna stand up for our rights! (Yeah, yeah, yeah!)

So you better:
Get up, stand up! (In the morning! Git it up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Stand up for our rights!)
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight! (Don't give it up, don't give it up!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Don't give up the fight! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight!

The street is cold, the dawn is gray
My heart says no but my head says stay
My work is finished, or so I've been told
You can't part the three of us, once we got a hold

I forgot my name
I took a shot on the chin
I'm rearranging my game
Tell by the shape I'm in

In the line of fire, you know what to say
They gave us no choices, just one shade of gray
My legs keep moving, don't seem to stray
But I know each step we take, they're one step away

I found the secret, the key to the vault
We walked in darkness, kept hittin' the walls
I took the time, to feel for the door
I found the secret, the key to it all

I got the Nouveauree
And dragged it home to bed
I traded you for me
I took it all and said

I find my own fun, sometimes for free
I got to pay it to come looking for me
Walking on Gucci, wearin' Yves Saint Laurent
Barely stay on, 'cause I'm so God damn gaunt

I found the secret, the key to the vault
We walked in darkness, kept hittin' the walls
I took the time, to feel for the door
I found the secret, the key to it all

sometimes we cry

Van Morrison -- The Healing Game -- Sometimes We Cry

Sometimes we know, sometimes we don't
Sometimes we give, sometimes we won't
Sometimes we're strong, sometimes we're wrong
Sometimes we cry

Sometimes it's bad when the going gets tough
When we look in the mirror and we want to give up
Sometimes we don't even think we'll try
Sometimes we cry

Well we're gonna have to sit down and think it right through
If we're only human what more can we do
The only thing to do is eat humble pie
Sometimes we cry

'Fore they put me in a jacket, and they take me away
I'm not gonna fake it like Johnnie Ray
Sometimes we live, sometimes we die
Sometimes we cry

Sometimes we can't see anything straight
Sometimes everybody is on the make
Sometimes it's lonely on the lost highway
Sometimes we cry, sometimes we cry

Gonna put me in a jacket, and take me away
I'm not gonna fake it like Johnnie Ray
Sometimes we live, sometimes we die
Sometimes we cry, sometimes we cry

Sometimes we live, sometimes we die
Sometimes we cry, sometimes we cry

Ennio Morricone--"The Ballad OF Hank McCain"

(from the film "Machine Gun McCain")

No one knows better than McCain
Life's a filthy dirty game
Very very hard to win

No one knows better than McCain
How to disregard the pain
Never, never let it in

No one knows better than McCain
That an angry man goes blind
Knocks his head against the wall

No one knows better than McCain
How it hurts a man to fight
That he's human after all

No one knows better than McCain
What a desperate man may do
When it gets too hard to bear

No one knows better than McCain
How to spit on the taboos
As they thought he'd never dare

No one knew better than McCain
How to care for number one
How to take and never give

No one knew better than McCain
That when all is said and done
That's the only way to live

No one knew better than McCain
Just how angry you can be
When they cage you in with laws

No one knew better than McCain
That a man who thinks he's free
knocks his head against a wall

No one knew better than McCain
Just how bitter it would be
To be beaten after all

No one knew better than McCain
They're the ones who fix the game
They're the ones with loaded dice

No one knew better than McCain
That they'd get him all the same
And they made him pay the price

Sonic Youth--"Sugar Kane"  ( I heard that Sugar Kane was Marilyn Monroe's alias that she would use when checking into hotels.  My friends and I used it as a euphemism for something else we were doing a lot of at the time this record came out.  It works lyrically either way.)

You're perfect in the way
A perfect end today
You're burning out their lights
And burning in their eyes
I love you sugar kane
A comin' from the rain
Oh, kiss me like a frog
And turn me into flame
I love you all the time
I need you 8 to 9
And I can stay all night
Your body shining
And I know
There's something down there
Sugar soul
Back to the cross
A twisted lane
There something down there
Sugar kane

I'm back again in love
I'm back again a dove
But where'd you get your light
Your smilin' sugar life
Another lovers day
Another cracked up night
And every night I say
The light is coming

And I know
There's something down there
Sugar cone
Back to the cross
A twisted lane
There something down there
Sugar kane

Hey angel, come and play
And fly me away
A stroll along the beach
Until you're out of time
I love you sugar kane
A crack into the dream
I love you sugar kane [x5]
I love you sugar

I Stand Alone
I STAND ALONE I've told you this once before, can't control me If you try to take me down you're gonna break I feel your every nothing that you're doin for me I'm thinking you outta make your own way I stand alone Inside, I Stand alone You're always hiding behind your so called Godess So what. You don't think that we can see you're face? Ressurected back before the final falling I'll never rest until i can make my own way I'm not afraid of fading. . . I Stand Alone Feeling your sting down inside me, I'm not dying for it I stand alone. Everything that i believe is fading I stand Alone, inside i stand alone And now it's my time It's my time to dream dream of the skies Make me believe that this place isn't plagued by the poison in me And help me decide if my fire will burn out before you can breathe into me Chorus

Re-Align
Decisions made from desperation - no way to go. Internal instincts craving isolation - for me to grow. My fears come alive, in this place where I once died. Demons dreaming knowing I - I just needed to realign. Fell in a river of illusion - and apathy. Drowning in a self-induced confusion - I'd rather be. Yeah! My fears come alive, in this place where I once died. Demons dreaming knowing I - I just needed to realign. Yeah

Square One

You're in control
Is there anywhere you wanna go?
You're in control
Is there anything you wanna know?
The future's for discovering
The space in which we travel in

From the top of the first page
To the end of the last day
From the start in your own way
You just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are

Under the surface trying to break through
Deciphering the codes in you
I need a compass, draw me a map
I'm on the top, I can't get back

Whooooaaa, whooooaaa

The first line on the first page
To the end of the last page (you were looking at)
From the start in your own way
You just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are
It doesn't matter who you are

You just want somebody listening to what you say
You just want somebody listening to what you say
It doesn't matter who you are
It doesn't matter who you are

Is there anybody out there who
Is lost and hurt and lonely too
Are they bleeding all your colours into one?
And if you come undone
As if you've been run through
Some catapult it fired you
You wonder if your chance'll ever come
Or if you're stuck in square one

Iggy--"Some Weird Sin" (from Lust For Life

Well, i never got my license to live
They won't give it up
So i stand at the world's edge

Well, i'm trying to break in
Oh no, it's not for me
And the sight of it all
Makes me sad and ill
That's when i want
Some weird sin

Things get too STRAIGHT
I can't bear it
I feel stuck
Stuck on a pin

Well i'm trying to break in
And i know it's not for me
And the sight of it all
Makes me sad and ill
That's when i want
Some weird sin
That's when i want
Some weird sin
Just to relax with

That's some dumb weird sin

Urge Overkill--"Sister Havana" (from the album Saturation.)  I always thought this one was a little political, like it was calling for Cubans to kill Castro--lines like "Overthrow...." and "We could have a holiday", as well as the opening lines.  Hard to say, but I always thought of it as an allegory for urging a coup detat in the guise of a song about a guy trying to get with a Cuban girl.  Dunno, but that's my take on it.

Sister Havana

Come around to my way of thinkin'
Don't you want to, want to get along?
Everyday just like a vacation with you
When I'm watchin' you and Fidel Castro in the sand, kissin'!

Girl you got to roll
Sister Havana,
Overthrow
Sister Havana

She's comin on like a bicycle army
Everybody's waitin' for the man to come down from the tower
Every day is just like a vacation with you layin' right here now
I'm watchin you and Fidel Castro in the sand, assassin!

Girl you got to roll
Sister Havana,
Overthrow
Sister Havana
Sister Havana
Sister Havana
Sister Havana

Sister Havana

There's no time to lose
I don't care what they say
There's no time to lose
We could have a holiday
But there's no time for hesitation
(There's no time to lose)
There's no time, no time for waitin'
(There's no time to lose)
There's no time so let's take the time and get it on today
(There's no time to lose)

Girl you got to roll
Sister Havana
Overthrow,
Sister Havana
Sister Havana, Sister Havana
Sister Havana, Sister Havana
Sister Havana
Come around to my way of thinkin'
Come around to my way of thinkin'
Come around to my way of thinkin'
Come around Sister

BOC--"Morning Final"

He cast a grim shadow
Through the busy street
Said he was a junkie
And he punctuated his walk with a gun
Motiveless murder
The papers scream
The cops all said
The crowd was iced by the sight
Oh baby don't it make you feel so bad
Dark clouds are over the street
After what I read, I can hardly feel my heart...
My heart beat
Down the subway stairs
After him they leapt
An echo snap and scream of fire
The hot pursuit was done
For the last time he felt the light
And gave up his last fight
Oh baby don't it make you feel so bad
Dark clouds are over the street
After what I read, I can hardly feel my heart...
My heart beat
