I have witnessed the horrors of children enduring great amounts of abuse that were unable to inform anybody.  Once you enter the program all forms of communication are cut off, so when there is a form of abuse inflicted the patient has no way to be rescued.  I was abused there, and I will always advocate for the teens in Provo Canyon School, and other abusive programs.

Is that true?  I don't have any experience with Provo Canyon School, but WWASPS schools don't cut off all forms of communication.  Letters are freely written and uncensored so the kids can say anything they want to, and most times they do say they are being abused just so they can push the parental "guilt" buttons and come home and be back in control again.

Parents have weekly contact with the therapists and/or family rep.

Later on they have phone calls and on grounds and off grounds visits.

That's sucks if Provo cuts all forms of communication off.

What a load of bullshit. WWASP censors that letter-- that's already an established fact. Read the Farmer vs. Mitchell case for details and more info.

Kids report the abuse because it actually happened. Because they believe their parents want what's best for them. But once the program has taken over the parents, these parents will gladly have their own children tortured and abused in the name of "treatment".

Provo Canyon School also has a counselor phone home once a week and the student gets to talk on a monitored call - with counselor on the other phone - for about 10 minutes twice a month - maybe three.  Visits are strickly discouraged the first month. Parents are all warned that their manipulative children will write and ask to come home and may even tell of FANTASTIC stories of abuse by staff. They are warned to not believe these manipulations by their children. This is done the first week.

There are no pay phones, no internet, the facility is locked, and the staff strickly controls all comunication - even non-verbal such as smiling. Those not towing the line are not allowed to see the light of day - often for months at a time. Immagine spending an entire summer indoors,  it's truly worse than juvenile hall.   These kids are victims of sexual assault, abuse and other mental illnesses. Most are not criminals.

Provo Canyon School is the most manipulative and deceptive institutions I have ever come across.

They both lied to and misled my parents about many things.

Back then (early 90's), there wasn't much information available to parents.

it's true, not even in the late 90's was there much info out there on it.  It's amazing how these places manage to stay secret.  Everyone knows what Guantanamo Bay is, but say "Tranquility Bay" or "Provo Canyon School", and people think you are talking about a resort and a boarding school.  I encourage all you writers and artists out there to start getting media out on the subject- we need to warn kids that these places exist.

Actually, there wasn't that much info available in the late 90's.  Around 1999, I found barely a thing on the web/internet about PCS.

Provo Canyon School would like to be known as a boarding school - but it is nothing more than a brutal behavior modification prison where human rights are stripped away upon admission.

She had Reactive-Attachment Disorder. Shes not 'violent', she has a genuine problem and doesnt trust anyone, and acts out accordingly.

PCS isnt going to fix her violence or the underlying problem one iota.

If quitting drugs means joining the war on terrorism, does this portend the fire bombing of Amsterdamn ?

I was in a similar place... Casa by the Sea in Ensenada Mexico. Worst experience of my life. All of those schools need to be shut down... its a waste of time and money... they don?t do anything but make your child depressed

I am a survivor of three programs of the same caliber of abuse. Three Springs, SUWS, and Cascade. I have first hand knowledge of such torment and abuse that so-called assistance treatment facilities offer. There true offer are lies, complete and utter lies

How can we let children to be tortured and at the same time be so up in arms about animals? I don't advocate abuse of either but surely one can see the problem here. I suppose since children don't vote often they are seen as disposable. We the adults have got to do better!

PCS was sued big time in the late 80's by the Youth Law Center.

Among the allegations of abuse brought by the plaintiffs?  Forcing kids to take lie detector tests and a form of coercive punishment called the "hair dance".
