KOSA is going to do a feature on Straight and rehab abuse.  The purpose of this feature is to inform and educate the Permain Basin about Straight and the Midland Family Service Center.  Also parents will be encouraged to investigate any place they plan to send their children.  The feature will be aired locally in the Midland-Odessa area and then sent to CBS national news programs to be reviewed for a possible national story.  The production for this feature is planned for May.  I will be back in Texas around May 14.  Anyone interested in giving their story/input should e-mail Dennis at [email protected]
I'm hoping for a group of parents and ex-clients to participate.

When I was in straight there was a whole camp of people there from Midland. That's so surprising that now they are going to run an anti-straight piece on the news. I had this image of the whole town just being all about straight and loving it...

The straight family services center that was in Claydesta Plaza.  Donated by Clayton Williams.

A while back they did a piece on surviving abuse.
I've had the newspaper ad for a while.  I called em a few weeks ago and told em about straight, Midlands history with straight and asked if they would do a story to warn and inform parents.  
Dennis P. is the person I've been in contact with about it.  Dennis said KOSA reports on issues to help the community.  They need time to do their own research and prepare, so May is the target time frame.  The more e-mails he gets about this, the better.

To this day parents, school officials, PDAP and other past straight supporters claim they never knew what was going on at straight and apoligize for their straight support.  Some parents have expressed deep regret to me for sending their kids to straight.  

The Midland Lee High On Campus Suspension Director gave me a 40 minute apology and told me he has changed and no longer acts with "tough love"  :smile:      A PDAP counselor spent 2 hours apoligizing to me for his part in sending me to Straight.  

The list of people that took part in getting me court ordered to straight is way long.  I'm happy they've learned the truth.  Hopefully this feature will shed light on the rest of the Permain Basin.

Wow, that would have been some conversations to remember  :grin: . Can you give a rundown of what they said to you or what they thought was going on in there? I'm curious to know. I remember I knew it was a small town, and I knew that we kept getting kids from there so they must have all been recruiting each other. When did they decide it wasn't what it was all cracked up to be?

The family services center is no longer open in Midland, TX.  The purpose of the coverage is to educate the public on what happened and to prevent it from happining again.  The only straight spin off in Texas that I know of is Safe P, a court order only program.

THE SORRYS...........
Midland Lee High;  Before I was sent to Straight Mr. Etherage claimed that I was going to pay for his vacation via crime stopper money because he reported me for selling drugs.  He keep me in "On Campus Suspension" for most of my school days and acted like the principal on "The Breakfest Club"
He didn't know that his son was one of my dealers.
A few years ago his son died from a brain tumor.
I ran into Mr. Etherage at a cigarette store shortly after his son's death.  He talked about his son a lot, said he was more understooding nowadays and regrets the way he was and has changed.  Though he referred many Lee students to straight, he never sent his son to straight.

PDAP;  PDAP stopped endorsing straight after the first group sent came back.  PDAP counselors claimed that straight clients were brainwashed to the point that they were no longer the same people.  John, the PDAP counselor that worked on my case seemed really scared when he first saw me.  It was around a year and a half ago when I ran into him.  I went to the PDAP house to tell them about http://www.thestraights.com and John just happened to be there visiting from out of town.
We talked outside in the parking lot.  It was cold and I kept saying "ya, later" but he keep talking.  He talked a lot about my mom and how worried she was about me and how they all had to do something.  He said Straight seemed like the anwser at the time.  He claimed that he no longer supports tough love and that soberity must be by choice :roll:  
I think he was dealing with his own fears by facing me.
Another PDAP counselor, Bruce, went through Cenikor and is very much against straight style rehabs.
Those counselors offered to give anti-straight statements to Wes Fager for publishing consideration on http://www.thestraights.com but were stopped by PDAP directors due to lawsuit fears.

I am not looking to collect money or punish anyone for their involvement with straight.
I'm looking to change this mutherfucking world.

Dennis P. of KOSA e-mailed me today and wants to use this feature during the next sweeps period.

I'm still working on a Porn Junky CD titled "Tough Love"  I've had to replace every fucking band member, but I'm still going.

Reagan,I am going through severe methadone withdrawals right now before I start back to work...
Mrs Scars and myself both plan on going back to Midland later this summer to visit my family and get some things I left.
 Id be willing to speak by phone with the guy though ..as is I cannot really even function.
