My son's lies causing repurcussions for many.
« on: March 08, 2005, 12:36:00 PM »
I have a 13 year old son who has recently been making up stories that have repercussions for many.He recently told me that our priest molested him while he was visiting him over Christmas Vacation. This is an outright lie.Our priest is one of the most wonderful person I have ever met. He often offers to watch many kids at his house when parents have to attend to other things. He also said another kid told him he was molested by our priest too.I asked that kid and he said that was not true.I think this is an attempt by him to get revenge on us because we make him go to church every Sunday. He wants to play with his friends on Sunday instead of going to church.I was just wondering what anyone here would do if in the same shoes?I still make him go to church and also make him stay with the priest when I must be elsewhere.I know many of you are gonna say I should find more time to spend with my son but I really try my best to do so. And I do not really trust anyone more than the priest to watch over my son. Also my husband also must travel with me on trips out of state to visit his ailing mother, and I must attend to business matters while he is visiting his mother.I am not in any way asking for any program to send him to. I am just seeking the thoughts of others.I will be able to stay home with my son pretty soon. My husband will visit his mother alone once I clear up my business situation. I am just looking for some suggestions for the interm. It also bothers me that some neighbors told me I am leaving my son in a dangerous situation.I would not ever leave my son with someone I did have comlete trust in.The neighbors I mentioned do not attend church and are very anti-church.According to them, all priest are child molesters. So their opinions do not mean to much to me, although their comments do bother me.

its too bad your son is making up that sort of stuff especially since its a hot thing to cry wolf about now with the actual abuse that has gone on. I don't know when you need your kid to get watched, but are there any sort of ymca or after school programs he could get into (maybe with his friends) on days you can't be home for him? As far as faith goes, you can't force someone to have it. The best way to encourage it is by not turning it into a power struggle and letting him seek it out himself. I left the church for 10 years, but its not like I had faith before that and those 10 years were well spent seing how important it is to have faith and how hard life is without it.

How can you be so certain that your son is lying to you?  How can you be so sure that this priest can be trusted?  I think you'd better re examine your take on the situation.  What if you're wrong?

As a priest, I've got to weigh in on this issue.  I work very hard to bring the Word of God to His children, and, at the end of the day, if I happen to have a little ball sweat on my hands, what's the problem?

If you want to talk about abuse, what about the rape the American public is experiencing?  Twelve bucks for a six-pack and a pack of Camels, that's the REAL rape that's going on....
