For the parents

No, I do not feel that Elan helped me. I went to Elan with a drug problem, and I left Elan with a myriad of problems that are unresolved and that I have to live with every day. Elan is a destructive, manipulative, and humiliating institution that is a far cry from a place that should provide rehabilitation. The staff at Elan lack the knowledge and experience necessary to effectively assist the Elan residents in their efforts to overcome the problems that they face. Most of the staff at the Elan school do not have degrees in fields related whatsoever to drug abuse, emotional instability, depression, or any of the other plethora of problems which they claim the Elan students are plagued with. Moreover, as a result of their own ignorance, the Elan staff fails to encourage significant improvement in the lives of the Elan students; rather, they actually encourage further trauma and emotional instability in the lives of the kids who reside at the Elan school. In addition, there are individuals, employed by the Elan school, who are deceitful, money and/or power hungry people who ultimately provide a severe disservice to the Elan residents and their families. Many of the staff at the Elan school lied repeatedly to my family, to me, and to my friends. How does this type of immoral and unethical behavior encourage improvement, in my life or the lives of others, of any kind? I am only sorry that I did not voice my true opinion long ago. I would never send my kids there, and if I ever have the opportunity or money to do so, I would have the Elan school shut down

if this is truely for the parents, I have to put in my piece. I have a completely different feeling for Elan. I was there for 3 years and thenks to the perserverance of the staff, the positive peer pressure and the effective dichotomy, I am now out, happy, and a productive member of society. I would however make one suggestion. If you are serious about getting your child in, please have them evaluated by a psychologist outside of Elan. While Elan, in my day, helped many people, they fail to recognize who really does and who really doesnt belong there. Consequently, Elan in the past 30+ years has turned out quite a few scarred people because of their contraversial way of hasndling issues. I was there because I had anger issues and was in severe need of behavior mod. If your child(ren) sound anything like this, Elan could work for them, but I would still have them evaluated first.

Did you also know that from what I've heard, which could be bull, they all have big screen tv's now, there are no getting feelings off blast or GM's.  They also got rid of the corner. Now when someone is acting out the basically go on a sit.  It is referred to as "Being removed from the mainstream"  Also about 2 months before I left the ring was taken away. So it is not NEARLY as harsh as what we went through in the early to mid 90's.  Nevertheless the 70's.
