Recently there was a post in the thread entitled "Poll about alcoholics anonymous" where someone was made a statement about AA. I asked the person to cite their source to no avail. I did some research and will produce the results below.
"Dear Kecia,
Your recent email to the General Service Office came to me, as I currently correspond with A.A. members in your region. My name is Rick Walker, and I am an alcoholic. I am glad to have this opportunity to be in touch.
Bill W. received royalties from A.A.W.S. for works he wrote. When he passed away, he designated a portion of the royalties to his heirs, including his wife, Lois. Lois in turn passed on a portion of her royalties when she died. There are still a few of Lois? relatives who will receive royalties until they die. When the last of these survivors has passed away died, no more royalties will be paid to anyone. There is a synopsis of the royalty agreement that I would be glad to mail you, if you will provide your postal address.
The royalty amount is listed in A.A.W.S. financial statements (which can be found in the Final Report of the General Service Conference) each year. In 2001 the amount distributed was $167,917, in 2002 it was $135,000, in 2003 it was $139,765.
I hope this information is helpful.
In fellowship,
Rick Walker
