Capitalism...
« on: October 27, 2004, 07:21:00 PM »
It seems pretty clear to me that one of the major things controlling the plight of America is the economic system of capitalism.  Current trends indicate that we are indeed headed by what was forseen as inevitable,  the end result of capitalism is that one corporation owns everything.  Look at the GIANT industries that exist, and then look at how many different companies are just subsidiaries of a larger coorporate entity.

One coorporation owning everything = socialism.

I found an alternative economic system that looks interesting.  Check it out for yourselves.

Capitalism may be the best system, as some believe, but its sorely lacking in terms of quality of life for the average person. And yes, a huge problem is corp welfare.

But, people clutch to it desperately because they fear anything else. Can't imagine why.... all the years I attended grade school we had 'bomb' drills
on a regular basis. Out into the hall, bunch up against the lockers, cover your head with your hands. Like that would save us... much less that the commies would bomb Podunk, Tx...

I was too young to understand who the 'communists' were, but I knew they were the boggie men from hell and I should fear them. We were thoroughly conditioned. One night I woke to a loud truck coming down our street. It was spraying a large cloud of smoke out the back. I ran to my parents room to alert them that the communists were gassing us.... of course, it was a mosquito truck. May as well been the commies, I went to sleep breathing some god awful poison that was permiating my room- no AC back then.

Here's a little piece I wrote for Sociology a few years ago that kinda puts it in perspective:

10 people sit down to play Monopoly.

1 person starts with $18,000
1 person starts with $1,800
The remaining 8 start the game with $25 each.

Do I need to elaborate? Would anyone have difficulty predicting that the 8 will be in debt before the first go around and remain so for the duration of the game. The one who started with $1,800 will also end up beholding to the one, depending on the roll of the dice.

Sounds like a fun evening of Monopoly, huh? How many people would even start the game with those rules? Unless, of course, they were the one with all the dough. Why for gods sake do 'we, the people' allow ourselves to be treated this way?

You don't have to turn Socialist or Communist to create a more pro-life society. The disparity is unethical. Even if people really understood, I wonder if they would act. Or just continue to be wage slaves for the elite, who are robbing them blind. If we did nothing else, we should demand the END of corp welfare.

I think Americans actually fear the Capitalists as much as they fear Communists or Socialists. They damn sure don't make a stink about anything.

Peak Intelligence.

Dood,
Mr. know it all, Southern Boy, I started working mowing lawns when I was 12 years old.  I haven't ever stopped.  Currently I work 40 hours a week and take 15 hours of school at TX State.  Who the fuck do you think you are?  I'm no lazy ass, or pansy ass, or liberal ass, or any other of the highly intelligent (sense my sarcasm?) names you might call me.

Do some research, find out what the experts think about capitalism.  Educate yourself and you may not say such stupid shit anymore, but every post I've read of yours makes you look like a complete idiot.  Why don't you try and contribute something more than insults and sarcasm.  Can you think for yourself, do you have intelligent ideas?

Antny,
I just briefly glanced at it, but will go back when I have more time. At first glance there seemed to be some things that might be problematic (imo), but over all, a definite improvement.

Do you see any incongruencies in the wikipedia definition?

BTW, I was your neighbor for 20 some years. What brought you to Fornits? Are you a survivor of the Teen Warehouse Industry, or just stumbled onto the political forum here?

I actually stumbled onto this site in my quest for the truth (IMO) to be told about the Woodside Trails Therapeutic Camp story.  I spent five years as a counselor there, and it was not what the media made it out to be.  I think it was the victim of politics...and it's terribly unfortunate b/c that place really was deeple devoted to helping some of the most difficult kids to work with.  It treated juvenile sex offenders ages 11-18, and did great work.  Of course it was tough living...that was part of the treatment modality, but it hardly constitutes warehousing or neglect.  The relationship therapy done there had tremendous results with the kids.

Beyond that I'm pretty politically charged now, ond found this to be a venue for intellectual discourse (with obvious exceptions)
