Seaside Academy provides a highly effective learning environment for teens who are struggling in their home, school, or community. Information about Seaside Academy

Seaside Academy is located just a little over 20 miles south of San Diego, California, near the seaport town of Rosarita, Mexico. The setting is beautiful, peaceful, and conducive to change. The Academy is specifically designed to help teens replace inappropriate attitudes, behaviors, and habits while at the same time excell academically. Seaside Academy is ideally located as it offers the benefits of a foreign site, with easy access to the U.S. At Seaside Academy, students are enriched and effectively impacted by a unique cultural experience in Mexico's warm, simple surroundings. Students learn Spanish, which further enhances the process of change.

The benefits of a foreign site are numerous. First, the students are put into an entirely new environment, away from the negative friends and influences that have adversely affected their lives. Second, the teens discover that they are in an unfamiliar culture. As a result, the teens tend to be much more teachable and open to change and direction. Third, a foreign experience helps broaden the teen's insight, awareness and perspective. Fourth, a foreign setting is much more impacting and instills a greater appreciation for home and family. Fifth, not only do the teens get the help they need, but a valuable foreign experience that they will likely remember and appreciate the rest of their lives. Additionally, due to the greater value of the U.S. dollar in Mexico, the Academy can provide its services at a significant reduction of cost to families. All of these reasons make Mexico an excellent option for teens needing to make changes in their lives.

Academics:
Seaside Academy has an extremely progressive academic program. The curriculum is individualized and competency based, allowing students to work at their own pace and maximize the learning process. Students are not held back by other teens in the class, lesson plans, teachers' schedules, course offerings, or class availability. The students are tutored by a teacher and in some cases, it is possible to complete courses on an accelerated basis. Each student is assessed upon admission and then assisted in designing their specific course of study.

Recreation:
Activities On and off grounds activities provide a proper balance of recreation, exercise, learning, personal development and social opportunities. Initially all activities are on grounds. Over a period of time teens may earn the privilege of participating in off campus activities; which could include sight-seeing, water sports, beach outings, and cultural events, etc. Mexico is well suited for these types of experiences.

Personal Development Courses
Ongoing Emotional Growth and Personal Development Courses are an important part of the overall program. These courses intermittently utilize resources such as: professional audio & video tapes, selective reading material, special workshops and group feedback sessions.

GROWING AND WINNING Teens develop and grow though the balanced schedule academics, personal development courses, health fitness, and recreation. This daily structure provides the catalyst for students to develop positive habits. Positive habits not only create success, but also allow teens to feel better about themselves. Once an appropriate self-esteem is established, the teens become INTERNALLY MOTIVATED: This means they will want to do the right thing for the right reasons; not because the parents or the Academy desires them to, but because they want to, having experienced the positive benefits for themselves.

WWASPS?

Well, the address says St George, Utah, doesn't it? That's the WW headquarters of WWASPS...and it ain't a very big town.

They have gotten very clever in recent years about flying under the radar and not advertising their programs with the use of the WWASPS name, which long ago lost its marketing value.
