Detained in Springfield, 1985-87

Although this website has resurrected alot of bad memories I've tried hard to suppress, it's nice to know there are so many of you who understand. I too was unjustly incarcerated and robbed of a significant portion of my youth for my brief dalliance with pot. Like some of you, I spent two years deprived of sunlight, contact with family and friends, education and adequate nutrition and healthcare (among other things) in the name of "tough love." I too endured a level of loneliness and fear no young person should have to endure. People screamed at me, spat on me, humiliated me, and forced me to make false confessions. I was even unable to attend my grandfather's funeral. I never believed I had a drug problem and, as a consequence of my honesty, spent most of my time on first phase. In the end, I was able to escape by having a "druggie friend" wire me a bus ticket during an escape. I feel a bond with those of you who know that Straight, Inc. was a tragic mistake. Let's make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for dropping in.  Yeah, I know the feeling of smoke a little weed= raging drug addict.  That attitude landed tooo many youngsters by the beltloop for a lot of time.  Well, its history for us, but I agree with you, we should help to stop the perpetuation of this garbage, as it does continue today. If anybody out there has any ideas???? Wes, Mike,Ginger?
Wouldn't it be grand to hold your most hated past nemesis by the belt loop and feed them peanut butter for a month.  How about an "intake room herding" for former executive staff.  Oh, to fantasize is grand...
....I'd rather be a first class ass-pain to them today, exposing them for what predetors they were to our parents and selve's.

Hi Anonymous,

Welcome aboard,  I was in springfield hell the same time as you were 85-86.  I do not know if you remember me or not But back then I was Dianna Layman, I have since gotten married.  I never had a drug problem at all either, I had three beers before I got put in.  I was on 1st phase for almost 8 months and after 11 months I had just made forth phase and ditched. I was able to convince my parents not to send me back. (I was very close to turning 18). I do not know if you remember me or not, but hope to hear more from you.

Diane
