California Youth Authority - beatings are routine video
« on: June 17, 2004, 11:32:00 PM »
Following is some information and a video that was taken from the Youth Rights Forum. The video is shocking and demonstrates that abuse is commonplace - even when video cameras are used:

The California Youth Authority (CYA)needs to be shut down! Here is an article on how the attorney general of California refuses to prosecute "counselors" that beat two youths. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... ADTC29.DTL

(Here is the Video of the Beating)
These bastards were even caught on tape (imagine what happens that we don't see), which you can see for yourself at:

(USE OF CAGES)

The day before this happened (in January) two other teenagers where found hanged in their cells. Here is more information on some of the abuses (including putting youth into cages where they can barely turn around).

Being sleepy can impair someone's ability to do thier job.  People
can sleep at home and come to the job with sleepiness still in their system. The sleepiness can still be there long after the employee has slept. When someone is found to be sleepy on the job, they can claim that they went to sleep the night before.  The only solution to this problem is to ban employees from sleeping.

HAS ANYTHING BEEN DONE - OR WAS THIS AN ISOLATED
INCIDENT? IT LOOKS LIKE THE GUARDS WHO ARE BEATING THE KIDS ARE TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE RANGE OF THE CAMERA - IN FACT - ONE OF THEM LOOK UP AT IT AND GOES AN TRIES TO MOVE THE GUARD AND STRUGLING YOUTH TO THE SIDE SO THEY WONT BE IN THE VIDEO - THEN HE STARTS KICKING THE KID. THIS IS AWFUL - SADLY THIS SAME THING HAPPENS IN RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS AND THERE ARE NOT VIDEOS.
