For America Haters

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?  If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times -and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at! Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

Wear it proudly!!

I knew I would get a response from a American Hater, thanks Kaydee, the guy made a lot of excellent points come on you have to agree with one or two. Or are you that disgusted in where you live?? But I would think to you spreading communism is a good thing. The cold war ended and the wall fell that should tell you something, unless you choose to be that blind. To each theyer own but I have never seen so many people in one place other than this web site that hate America and what I mean by so many is the 3 or 4 of you that hate everything about being a American you know who you are, our government is far from perfect , corrupt out for themselves yes that is true I am not blind to that. But lets remember it's a two party system and they have both proved to be out for themselves and not the citizen, I believe Alex said two flabby cheeks on the same ass definately a good analogy. But we have sent a lot of money and a lot of our citizens have died on foreign shores to help others all over the world that is a fact like it or not. Kaydee I was being Factious in the openinig of this post referring to you as a America hater, so please don't take it personal.[ This Message was edited by: thepatriot on 2004-05-06 07:52 ]

Ok,
the cold war ended and the berlin wall fell....
the soviet union is broke and now tons of real weapons of mass distruction as in nukes are floating around and no one knows where the hell they are

is that better?? and if the USSR was so unscrupulous what is to say they haven't sold them all off to countries that would not hesitate to nuke "we the people"

you retracted the American hater statement, but I would like to touch on that sentiment anyway.

May people think that anyone who doesn't blindly support everything the government does is an America hater.

that is not the case, I can have ideals and dreams for what this country could be, and critisims for what is wrong and still love my country.
I have no desire to be wearing a long dress and be subservent to a man, that doesn't mean that I need to no longer be analytical about the realites of our country.

the lesser of the evils, that does not apply here

I don't blindly support anything, I refuse to just agree because one is not as bad as the other.

Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die

I get a little irked when someone calls this website "un-American" or "un-Christian" or un-anything for that matter. If you can post your views for all to see without fear of them being censored or reworded, I'd say that's absolutely American. Try that on ALA's site (if you could even get a username) or Woodbury's crock-of-shit "community".

The real question is what defines American? Revisionists will tell you America is the land of open arms that accepts every race and creed because there's a niche for everyone. Text books devote brief chapters to the struggles of certain ethnic demographics as they immigrated in waves to the country and ultimately found acceptance. Given the most recent nationalist movement, the average modern American might say "freedom." See if you can find the motif.

Disagreeing with the establishment is an American tradition. Discouraging any citizen from that heritage is truly un-American. If we place a premium on similar opinions we turn our back on everything this country was intended to be. Of course, as an American, you can disagree all you want. Even vocally. But without a concerted following, there's nothing you can do about it.
