D.C. Protest July 18
« on: June 28, 2002, 08:26:00 AM »
Wes is planning a "peaceful protest" in Wash. D.C. for July 18. What follows is just one paragraph from his bulletin. The full article is at http://www.thestraights.com

Hope to see you there!

"This latest Supreme Court decision is going to call for more drug testing of our young people. And while these tests will surely help deter the destructive use of illegal drugs by our young people, someone will be paid to do the testing. It is not a free service. The Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) is conducting a one day seminar on July 18, 2002 called "Workshop on Implementing a Student Drug Testing Program". The seminar will be held in Washington, DC on July 18. The workshop is co-sponsored by SAFE's predecessor program--Straight--which now calls itself the Drug Free America Foundation. We will peacefully protest this workshop in the morning of July 18 and then move the picket to the Italian Embassy in Washington, DC in protest of the appointment of Straight founder Melvin Sembler's appointment as ambassador to Italy. Time permitting we will also appear at the offices of Robert Horan, Commonwealth Attorney for Fairfax, Virginia and demand that he launch an investigation into the several suicides of former students from Straight - Springfield (including two history breaking double suicides each involving at least one former Straight student)."
