1) Was Art Barker in Synanon? And were all these former synanon freaks who founded their own scary orgs people who chose to become members or there due to their parents?

2)What WERE the 7 steps?

3)Plymouth Straight:
  A. Didn't the Plymouth building get shut down and everybody shipped to Deerborne (20 minutes or so away) before Deereborn moved to Southfield and became Pathways?
B.Was the actual corporate name of Plymouth Straight not AARC? Another board set off something I half remember, it seems like a phone mom once commented to me on how people were always calling wanting ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens?), because Plymouth Straight's only phone listing was under AARC?

I know that Barker was part of the Seed, wasn't he? I don't know about Synanon...

The steps:

1) Admit I'm powerless over being in str8, er, I mean over drugs and came to believe a power greater than myself can restore me to sanity.

2) Make a decision to get the fuck out, I mean turn my will and life over to God as I understand him.

3) Make a searching and fearless MI of myself daily.

4) Admit my wrongs, blah, blah...

5) Make amends...

6) (somebody else, I need coffee still)

7) Having been thoroughly brainfucked, er, I mean having received the "gift of awareness" I will practice these principles in all my daily affairs, and carry the message to all I can "help..."  :skull:

6.) Seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for the knowledge of his will for us and the power to carry it out.

Or there abouts. This one was almost a direct port from AA.

Ha--I remember "admit that I'm powerless over being here" and "make a decision to leave" --those are the only steps I ever followed. :smokin:

Okay, I had to get stuff out of my Straight tote to get this.

1) Admit I am powerless over drugs and come to believe that a power greater than myself can restore me to sanity.

2) Make a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand him.

3) Make a searching and fearless Moral Inventory of myself daily.

4) Admit to God, myself and another human being the exact nature of my wrongs immediately.

5) Make direct ammends to such people wherever possible except when to do so would injure them, myself or others.

6) Seek through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with God as I understand him, praying only for the knwledge of His will for me and the power to carry that out.

7) Having received the gift of awareness I will practice these principals in all my daily affairs and carry the message to all I can help.

I have to throw up now.  I don't think I've actually seen those written out since I was booted out of 7 Step Society.

I know I've asked this before, but not sure if it was here or not.  Does anyone have a copy of that fucking open meeting speech Newton would give???  The one about the kids having a "deep and implicit trust" in him and the program.  I would LOVE to have a copy of that.  I even remember back then thinking what a fucking narcissist he was whenever I would here that Goddamn speech.

1)Is it based on objective reality?
2)Does it protect my life and health?
3)Does it help me to achieve my long and short term goals?

Can't recall 4 and 5, but I know major concepts in them start with the letters "a" and "s". We used the anagram "OLGAS" to remember them.

Thanks guys, I just never saw the 7 steps before, we had all 12. I always wondered. I didn't mean to cause any nightmares, I'm pretty happy to report that I can't remember some of the steps anymore.

It is fucking bizarre to see this shit written out again.

4-Feel and act the way Straight wants me to

5-Keeps me out of conflict with myself and others (so they won't think to report me to staff & I can leave)

Lying in my plastic bed,
Thinking how thinking how things wern?t so cool me.
My baby likes to shoot pool,
I like lying naked in my bedroom, tying off that dinosaur tonight,
It used to be so cool.
Now I?ve got that needle, I can shake, but I can?t bleed.
Take it away, but I want more and more.
One day I?m gonna loose the war.

I found a copy of it one time in Cincinnati but I just couldn't bring myself to take it.  It was used nationally by all the Program Directors.  I wouldn't be suprised if the Directors in the spin off programs still use it today.

The more I think about that speech, the more it pisses me off.  The gist of the speech was about confidentiality.  That 'deep and implicit trust' crap was so perverted on a couple of different levels.  First, it implies that we need to have trust in order to 'share'...like we had a fucking choice in 'sharing' (I STILL hate that word)or could feel any kind of trust for ANYONE in there.  Second, the whole confidentiality thing was thrust on us as some sort of protection FOR US.   ::puke::

God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.
