In re your question about herbal medicine, sometimes these things happen by degrees. They wait for the right moment to try to get this or that bill passed. Yes, it is known that they have been trying for years; I remember people mentioning the FDA's restrictive shenanigans 20 years ago when i worked at a natural food store. It is interesting to note here that the World Health Organization recently blocked shipments of colloidal silver to the African countries afflicted with ebola. (I don't know if the article, or any of its embedded links, mentions this.)

I think they are waiting until after the elections to start pushing the fear factor.
