A Boston first-grader is being investigated for possible sexual harassment for punching another boy in the groin following a school bus fight, according to a report from MyFoxBoston.com.

Tasha Lynch, the mother of the boy, says her son was acting in self-defense after the victim allegedly choked him on a school bus and stole his gloves.

Lynch says her 7-year-old son was merely trying to protect himself, MyFoxBoston.com reports.

A spokesman for the Boston school system confirmed that an investigation was indeed underway, but would not discuss details of the incident, including why it had been classified as a sexual assault.

Lynch says her son is only being investigated because he punched the other boy in the groin. She argues that the other boy should be charged with attempted murder for choking her son.

BOSTON (AP) - The mother of a Boston elementary school first-grader being investigated for possible sexual harassment for punching another boy in the groin says her son acted in self-defense.

Tasha Lynch said Thursday the other boy had choked her son on a school bus and stolen his gloves late last month.

She tells The Boston Globe her 7-year-old son reacted in an attempt to protect himself.

A spokesman for Boston public schools confirmed an investigation but refused to discuss specifics of the incident or why it has been classified as a possible case of sexual harassment.

Lynch says because her son punched the other boy in the groin, school officials say they consider it sexual assault. She counters that the other boy should be charged with attempted murder for choking her son.

7-Year-Old Accused Of Possible Sexual Harassment For Kicking Boy In Groin
December 2, 2011 11:12 PM

BOSTON (CBS) – A 7-year-old boy is being investigated by his South Boston elementary school for possible sexual harassment after kicking another boy in the crotch.

The first grader’s mother, Tasha Lynch, says she was shocked by the school’s decision.

“He’s 7 years old. He doesn’t know anything about sexual harassment,” she said.

Lynch’s son, Mark Curran, said the boy that he kicked had been bullying him on the school bus ride home from Tynan Elementary last week.

“He just all of a sudden came up to him, choked him. He wanted to take his gloves, and my son said, ‘I couldn’t breathe, so I kicked him in the testicles,’” said his mother.

Lynch described a phone call she received from the school explaining that the case will be treated like sexual harassment, due to what it considers inappropriate touching.

“‘Your son kicked a little boy in the testicles. We call that sexual harassment,’” Lynch said the school told her.

She said she’s been asked to attend a disciplinary hearing at the school Monday.

A Boston Public Schools spokesperson said officials are investigating, but won’t comment further, since it’s a private matter.

Lynch wants an apology and better supervision on the school bus to prevent such fights among students.

“He couldn’t breathe. He was trying to defend himself,” she said. “I don’t find that sexual harassment. I find that defending himself.”

7-Year-Old Accused Of Sexual Harassment Transferred To New School

December 5, 2011 2:04 PM

BOSTON (CBS) – A 7-year-old boy accused of sexual harassment for kicking another student in the groin will be transferred to a new school in the city of Boston.

The first grader’s mother, Tasha Lynch, met with Tynan Elementary School officials for a disciplinary hearing on Monday. She had said her son, Mark Curran, was defending himself when he kicked an alleged bully in the crotch.

Lynch told WBZ-TV Monday that her two children will be transferred to a new school in the city. Lynch said she will keep her kids out of school until the transfer process, which can take up to 48 hours, is complete.

Lynch also told WBZ-TV that both of her sons are happy with the change.

No charges will be filed in the incident.

The school declined commenting on the hearing, calling it a “specific student disciplinary matter.”
