New unnamed facility
« on: June 17, 2010, 05:56:09 AM »
I discovered that the founders of Island View and Oakley are planning a facility in Ogden Valley.

'Sweet deal' in Ogden valley angers resident, by Greg W. Anderson, Standard-Examiner, June 16, 2010

I have no other records on this planned facility. Can anyone contribute with further information?

On June 22, the Ogden Valley Planning Commission will consider changing the conditional uses of the FV-3 zone in the Ogden valley to allow the construction of a residential treatment center for trouble teenaged boys within that zone. We're told that because it will be started by the same people, the facility will be similar to the Oakley School in Oakley, Utah and the Island View School in Syracuse, Utah.

But, let's get really honest. This whole transaction amounts to an economic bailout drive by current financial conditions. The specific property in question contains a so-called "McMansion," which was built within the last five years. The tranasaction cannot be completed without the help of public officials who would have to create an additional conditional use within the FV-3 zone. And why? To bail out the homeowner from his financial trouble while enabling the proprietors of the new treatment center; it's a very sweet deal. After all, half the construction on the new business would already be done.

But is this really a "win-win" for more than just the two parties involved? And, does the entire FV-3 zone (which is about one-third of the Ogden valley) need to be permanently altered in the process? Let's be wise. Let's not transform one-third of the Ogden valley just because we're in a correction phase following a real estate "bubble." Let's not start placing multi-million-dollar businesses in the middle our our quiet, resident areas within FV-3.

Gonna go ahead and guess that it was abandoned in the wake of massive Aspen losses. CRC cannot possibly be stupid enough to throw even more money down that rathole after learning the hard way how stupid it was to buy Aspen to begin with.
