Hey Coz,
Thanks very much for the compliment. I've found through years of hosting these forums and haunting others that trolling is just a permanent part of net culture. When the topic is as serious as in these forums, there's just always a very high level of hostility. Same thing happens in discussion about the war du jour or law enforcement.
These forums have never aspired to the roll of a newspaper or anything. It's a whole lot more like a pub. Sometimes you find outstanding company and good conversation, but you always have to ignore the rowdy drunks in the corner. Unless, of course, you happen to be in the mood to join them.
It's a resource for journalists, authors, artists, lawyers and activists to
find leads and eye wittnesses to specific events. But I wouldn't want anyone to get the impression that there's any representation that everything posted here is verified fact. That's one reason why I won't censor anything. It would interfere with readers' ability to judge the credibility and personality of anyone who's posting.
And you really never know what will happen. I know a few people who've come at it with nothing but venom at first. Then they get over the initial shock and do something really worthwhile.
