The senility prayer
« on: October 29, 2003, 05:12:00 PM »
God grant me the senility
to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.

"How funny that you would take offense."

Yep, pretty funny that someone would be offended. Also funny that others would be offended that someone was offended.

And on and on...... ::bangin::

Back to the thread topic...Ginger, love your sense of humor and sense of style!
I always hated that little piece of trash "the serenity prayer." It represented to me hours and hours of torture and offered me not one bit of solace.

Thought that is silenced is always rebellious. Majorities, of course, are often mistaken. This is why the silencing of minorities is necessarily dangerous. Criticism and dissent are the indispensable antidote to major delusions.

Funny, I never had a problem with it. I suppose I thought about it and attached my own meaning to it before anyone could impose a messed up one on it.

Accept what you can't change. Not a bad idea.

Change what you can. Ok, if it also happens to be something that needs changing and is worth my time and trouble.

The wisdom to know the difference. I suppose I read that more like the prescience and keep trying to improve my odds over time.

My post was really intended as a very good humored poke at our other anon friend, JG. But I have another for our other anon friend.

"Step 1. We came to understand that the government is powerless over people's private use of drugs and that the War on Drugs was making the government's life unmanageable."
--Scott Tillinghast

...it is worth discussing radical changes, not in the expectation that they will be adopted promptly but for two other reasons. One is to construct an ideal goal, so that incremental changes can be judged by whether they move the institutional structure toward or away from that ideal. The other reason is very different. It is so that if a crisis requiring or facilitating radical change does arise, alternatives will be available that have been carefully developed and fully explored."

YES!

And as irrational as this is...i still hate HELEN REDDY. I know emotionaly is wasn't her fault, but everytime I hear her voice I hear instead...

"I am seedling hear me roar"

YECHH.  Do you think it has anything to do with all those thought reform raps, hours and hours of them, that said if we ever left the seed the music would drive us nuts?

One of the few truths I took from the place...

Karate is a form of martial arts in which people who have had years and years of training can, using only their hands and feet, make  some of the worst movies in the history of the world.

No, not that one. Some songs do really bug me. But, for some reason, others don't. I don't think of them as part of the program but as a little niceness that held me over in the midst of a lot of sadness. Greensleaves is one of those.

To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them...
