"In addition to “dramatically expanding the authority of US law enforcement,” the Act amends criminal, surveillance, and immigration laws, revises border security and banking/money laundering legislation,[iii] and perhaps its most criticized point – drastically reduces checks and balances on government power, allowing infringement upon civil liberties such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, human rights, and right to privacy."
