Besides the fact your child has to agree to go (Arizona is a child right state) I haven't heard of any long term healthy results from being admitted for behavior, but I don't know a lot of kids that attended that one.

Their focus is more on academics than on emotional or behavior issues.

I only know one parent whose son attended there.  They did nothing for his emotional issues and was asked to leave.  He is now enrolled in a therapeutic boarding school and has excelled in school and is getting to the core of his emotional issues from being adopted. The family says OCR was good for the schooling, but not for the issues stemming from adoption/abandonment.

Oh, yeah, adoptive parents!  Send your kid off to a lockdown boarding school.  Sure.  Way to go to make the kid feel NOT abandoned.

Abuse reports?  Probably not since these kids and walk or run away at any time.  Remember, they have to agree to go and stay.  Not a good choice if you have a troubled teen. Could be a good choice if schooling is the only challenge.  ADDers need a place to find out they are really very smart. If they have a way to help these kids read, retain and excell, then awesome!  I would check to make sure that medication is not part of the curriculum.

***ADDers need a place to find out they are really very smart.***

What a notion- that kids labeled with the fraudulent diagnosis of ADD/ADHD/ODD/OCD need a special environment (warehouse facility) to find out they are really very smart. That is just BS. They need a place and place is called HOME.

Take your kid out of pubic school and find a Montessori school or "School without Walls". Move to a city that has one if necessary.
Abandon the shinkydinks and find a good doctor that can test for allergies or neurological problems.
Spend more time with your kid.
Read Dorothy Corkgill's "Your Child's Self-Esteem" and put it to practice.
Don't fall prey to the assumption that some group of strangers is going to give your kid what is genuinely needed to overcome the behaviors that get kids labeled for these days.
And the last thing an "ADD" kid needs is to be shipped off to strangers to be raised.

Do Residential Programs Work for Kids with AD/HD?

Research published in the June 2002 issue of the journal Medical Health Services Research says that sending difficult children to a boarding school may not be as effective as keeping the family together and providing a family preservation program. Psychologist Linda A. Wilmshurst of Texas Woman's University compared children enrolled in a residential program with children who stayed at home.
