MISSING student: runaway
« on: October 27, 2009, 10:21:27 AM »
From another thread in the Open Free For All, Zak Eveland:

Quote from: "pepsitodd1"
Our son ran away from Hyde School in Connecticut on Oct 10, 09.He had only been there 9 days. No one has heard from him and we all desperately want to know that he is safe. He is an anarchist and may have gotten help from an anarchist collective in Albany, NY or Hartford,Ct. We really don't know. If any one knows where he is, please have him e mail or call his girl friend or brother or sister. Thank you.

LOL. It doesn't mean what you think it should mean anymore.

It now refers to a loose contingent of anti-capitalist, anti-neocon, anti-globalization, and all-around anti-authoritarian folk (sorry if I've left anyone out). I can't believe this guy hasn't found fornits yet!  :D

Yes, Hyde doesn't seem to have been a very good fit in this case, does it?

Well... to the parents' credit, their primary concern right now appears to be that their son, Zachary, is okay and safe.

How many parents have sued Hyde Schools for abuse?

Probably not so few! I know of four lawsuits right off the top of my head and I'm not exactly plugged in to what's happening there. Each one of them, however, was settled out of court.

One of those cases actually involved contractual obligations. If I recall the case correctly (which I may not), the parents pulled their kid early due to unhappiness with what was going on there, and Hyde wanted to keep the remainder of the year's worth of tuition. Parents claimed that Hyde failed to fulfill their part of the bargain and wanted a return of tuition. A "mutually agreeable sum" was eventually agreed upon.

NOTE to any potential Hyde parents: Never ever prepay the full year, regardless of perceived savings! It gets real hard to get your money back when they already have it in their pockets![/list]

The other three cases all involved sexual assault or sexual harassment of students by faculty.

Looks like a more recent pic here in this excerpt from Rich Curran's blog "Spider's Web" on Hyde-Woodstock's website:

Two new students, Laura Leonard and Zach Eveland, introduced themselves to the community in true Hyde tradition.

Laura is a 16-year-old junior from Vail, CO, and Zach is a 17-year-old junior from Chicago, IL.  Welcome to Hyde, Zach and Laura!

So our young anarchist is the grand nephew of Hyde founder Joe Gauld?   I don't remember if Pam's dad was Joe's brother because Joe isn't really a Gauld.   His birth name was Smith.

It is in fact the truth Joe's  name was Joseph Smith at one point.  Yes that is the name of the man that spoke to the angel Maroni. He changed it to Gauld.  The thing I can't remember is if Smith was the name of his step father and he hated his step father so he changed back to his birth name or if his birth name was Smith and he loved the fact that his step dad was an SOB and changed it to Gauld.  In any event I remember he changed his name and he had a step dad that was very demanding.  Also I am not sure if Pam's Dad is Joe's brother or step brother.  I believe it is the latter .....   and I think that his birth name was Smith and his step father was named Gauld.
