Actually, I disagree with him on almost all of it except "legalize all drugs".  Giving drugs out?  NO.  Rehab instead of jail?  HELL NO.  If somebody commits a crime it shouldn't matter whether they were on drugs or not.  Throw them in jail.  Nothing makes me want to puke more than "the drugs made me do it".  It's a cop out.  Habitual drug use isn't a fucking disease.  It's a choice.  So is the choice to commit a crime instead of quitting a costly habit (which *can* be rendered affordable by legalization).  The two are separate choices.  Provide rehab for those who want it?  No.  Taxpayer dollars shouldn't go to fixing other people's bad choices (among hundreds of other reasons I can think of).  Prescribe drugs?  No.  Drugs are property under the constitution.  The government has no business telling us what property we can put in our bodies.  Legalize, yes.  Regulate, no.  Let the free market sort it out.  What should be made illegal is drug *testing*.  It's discrimination based on a personal choice... just as much as discrimination based on religion.  Substitute with field sobriety where necessary (which is actually far more effective and accurate than breathalyzers and the like).  If a person shows up unable to do their duties in any way, fire or suspend them for it.  What caused that inability is irrelevant.

The rest of it sounds rather socialist. He seems to think that somehow appealing to the government to change it's practices will work without realizing that the power of government almost always leads to the things he despises.  He wants utopia, yes, but the way he wants to get it will always lead back to where we are now.  The only way to solve the problem is to take the power away from government, not give them more power which will be twisted in time.  If program taught me one thing it's that power corrupts and where shit can go wrong, it usually does... it's just a matter of time.

well said my friend, well said.

Personally I believe the more laws and amendments the government makes the more they are incringing on the average citizens personal responsibility. And even more so gives people little room to make up their own minds about whats wrong and right... Im of the opinion that our society's obession with control only feeds the determination of the individuals who intend to violate the stated moral code. Same goes for drugs... Becuse its considered bad or taboo, regardless of the fact that moderation taught at an early age helps aviod addiction, people in america grow up thinking getting shit tanked is cool, so no amount of laws or donut munching swine will deter their fixation with doing as many drugs as they can get their stupid little hands on. Forgive my detest for the system, but I really think our whole establishment = shit. Wanna talk about taxpayers money? How about the fact that we are currently paying millions of dollars to feed house and provide medical care for prisoners guilty of victimless crimes while child molesters, repeat domestic violence offenders and rapists are being let out on plee bargins simply because we cant afford it. WTF? I propose all the rapists, child abusers and murders just get dropped off on a deserted island and left for dead. Secondly I get pissed that Im paying the salary of the dickfaced cop that decides to pull me over for not wearing my seat belt, FUCK YOU, that SHOULDNT be a law! and I have the right to choose if I take precautions to live or die. The fact that thats a law now is only proof of our state passing off moralistic propaganda just so they can earn more revenue for traffic violations. Makes me want to set fire to the court house.

I really havent done my homework on the projected effect of legalizing all drugs, Im sure there are more than enough pros and cons to make it a hard call, but its obvious spending so much money opposing and trying to neutralize the drug market has only resulted in EPIC FAIL.  Soooo... fuck yo couch nigga.

In Denmark we gives drug out for free. They have a few locations where you can get herion for free if you are a registered drug user and the doctor believe that rehab is of no use (In Denmark people cannot be forced into treatment unless a number of conditions are fulfilled and it has to be decided by court.).

It is a complicated process, so you cannot get it unless you have been victim of drugs for years.

Prescribed heroin is a reality (Link to google translated news)

Europe: Denmark Parliament Approves Heroin Maintenance Pilot Project, StoptheDrugwar.org

Because we became tired of the needles lying around in Copenhagen, so children by accident could hurt themselves on them at playgrounds, we have created a location manned with medical staff where people can bring their illegal drugs and fix without risking arrest.

If people OD at this location they can get help fast.

Hows this for wanting to have it both ways?

Now California is going to try to tax marijuana. Sure sure. Keep it (mostly) illegal but tax it anyway.

wankers

Interestingly enough, that's part of how weed was made illegal in the first place. It was a tax thing.
