I would ask, "Could you utilize skills learned during "cats" at Camp E-Hun-Tee?  A majority of skills, if not all, went out the window as soon as I arrived at Camp E-Hun-Tee from my month long training (cats) in Florida.  This was due to unrealistic expectations enforced by supervisors.  They would expect children to solve their problem in a "group huddle" until "their issues were taken care of."  We ran into allot of problems.  Groups would often miss meal times in the dining hall.  It set them up for more problems.

Yeah, I remember one seasoned vet who had this habit of breaking up restraints and taking the kid away from the scene. Used to piss off the Chiefs, but in the long run it was better.

Funny how CALO believes in "Time In" rather than giving the kids a "Time Out".

Wasn't it TCI they made us learn? I know we did Catatogas about a year or so apart if I'm not mistake.

My supervisor, John Wellington, would remove children from group huddles when group process broke down.  Chiefs (group counselors) disagreed with that.  This was considered removing the child from the source of anger.  After he returned, the child's problem was over.  Time in, used at CALO, resulted in several restraints at Eckerd Youth Alternatives.

Yeah, I remember kids getting so freaking pissed that they would beg for a chance to sit away from the group. But policy is policy and they couldn't be allowed to do that.

In the end they took it in the keister.
