some fond memories of kids
« on: July 30, 2003, 08:43:00 PM »
One time i was watching a movie in fun rap.  I think it was a mad mad world, or something like that.  Half way threw the movie Staff turned it off because they thought it was too drugie.  I think it starred buddy hacket or something.  One time my oldcomer caught me jerking off and exposed me to host mom.  Then he contemplated If he had done the right thing for a half hour.  I knew i was in hell when i had to talk about my past on christmas.  Listening to rebellous newcomers frozen on day 3 own their wrongs for clicking with people that didnt deserve their name being mentioned because "they were full of shit" at the time.  How lame was kids?

I remember seeing that in El Paso as well.
It got shut off there when someone saw a character drinking Budweiser.
Back when the movie was made, nobody cared whether a brand was shown in a film.

And it's not a druggie movie.  If you like to laugh, it's a damned funny movie.  Rat Race (with Whoopie Goldberg & Rowan Atkinson) was based on this flick...

I give it:

Censorship is the first sign of a cult.  Restricting what you can see, hear, watch, & enjoy...

Your toungue should be ripped from your mouth or rather your fingers smashed with an ice axe for typing a thread titled "some fond memories of KIDS".  Just my opinion.  KIDS caused deaths of many and psychological disarray for even more.  No movie shown was a fond memory and no fun rap was fun.

Call me bitter but there is no nostalgia when it comes to my memories of the program.  Only resentment for loosing my teen years to white walls, blue chairs, and Newtonian (I like that term, JohnO.) philosophy.

Jews don't recall the good 'ol days from Aushwitz, nor should program vets recall fond memories of the monster that stole years from the lives of teenagers.

My opinion.

I disagree.  While overall the experience that was Kids was horrible.
There WERE friendships made and bonds that will never be broken. There were genuine good times, although coated with a veneer of requisite bullshit.

My favorite was the sole talent show.  Br**n N**l (RIP) & I did a news parody sketch.  We share the same dry, sarcastic wit.
Maybe it was cliquing or whatever...

Perhaps it was just me desperately grasping onto anything positive and remotely enjoyable to avoid the miserable circumstances.  It's the same thing people do in times of war or when they're in prison...

I remember that movie it's a mad mad world. I was at the fun rap when staff turned it off in the middle of it. I was an oldcomer and i had seen the movie before but didn't say anything about the beer. It had been so long since I saw a can of Bud. It was a fond memory of watching a great film until one of Newtons robots killed it. I did have a lot of fond memorys but they were always destroyed by fear and confusion. It was like an emotional roller coaster ride going back to the building on a day off. On the one side you had fun with a friend or family member. But the fear of did I do something wrong or will I be set back was always there. I threw up on a car ride back from a day off worrying I had to much fun and was druggie. All fond moments came with a price.

That reminds me of a day off I had on 4th phase. I put in my request & it was approved. It was on the same day that they were decorating the Christmas tree in group. I went on my day off with my mom & when I returned to the building and we were in line with our newcomers Staff asked me where I had been that day. I said "On my day off" "Well you should have been here for the tree decorating." (Well then shouldn't my permission have been denied? I was thinking) I said "Well, I guess I didn't think about it" "Well, you're back on second phase" Michelle W. was also set back to second phase that night for going to work. We also had to get permission to go to work so if they wanted her in group shouldn't they have denied her work permission? DUH! Staff screwed up & we were punished for it. I think my mom was completely irate that night but of course she couldn't show it or I would have been hosted out, I'm sure.

...while I agree that my 4 years there was a nightmare, and I don't have many "fond memories", there were a few people that made it bearable.  When Ayndrea M came on the rap stool, I knew I would be ok...she was fair to everyone.  Then Andrea went away to school and it was hell until Celeste K made it to staff and made it bearable for me again.  I made friends with a newcomer - Jennifer N.  To this day I don't know what happened to Celeste, but she was at my wedding, Jennifer was my bridesmaid, and 13 years out of the program Ayndrea is one of my closest friends.  To these 3 people, I owe my thanks.  Suzanne
