Helen Petermann

I always thought that Helen Petermann was a misplaced soul.Born in New York of Lithuanian descent,if her family never migrated, what would have she done.My thoughts are she would have joined the Waffen SS and guarded naked prisoners as they marched to their deaths during the Second World War.Horrible thought, but to those who knew her, they would have to agree. That would have been her calling.

Yes, Petermann was truly vile.

Of course, she has nothing on Ruthie or Virgil, but eclipsing their evil would really take some doing.

Thanks to my good fortune,my last visit to Str8 was several months BEFORE Reagan took power. This administration, through Mel S. and the First Lady,"legitimized" this bizarre Str8 model.Folks, such as Virgil,Ruthie, and even Helen(when she got to Osprey),had a much freer hand with such sacred cows running interference for them. Before then,Str8 had a lot of close calls with the HRS.They needed to show caution and restraint or all would be lost. Our minds were thoroughly twisted, but with subtler, less overt, abuses as the time didn't permit otherwise.I really don't know how I would have handled Virgil.I just consider myself lucky to have dodged that bullet.

I remenber Ms. Pete as we called her in my day, very well.

I also remember one Friday night during open meeting when the Father of a former programee was passed the mike and he stood up and " confronted" her. How he got in after he had pulled his son, I don't know, but he stood up and asked her how she slept at night, knowing the damage she was doing to the kids that were still in the program. He told her that she would have to answer to the devil himself for the evil she was resposible for.

A couple of the other Father's there stood up and escorted him out and of course Ms. Pete had some wise crack remark to deflect his comments, but I will never forget that night, because over the next couple of days, there were a few kids in group that were never seen again.

I only new Miller Newton for a brief period of time, but IMO there is no comparing evil to evil.
Evil has the same face regardless of who wears it.

I'm still trying to remember what happened when I was in LIFE. I remember bits and pieces. I remember Miss Pete. But I was there for a year and a half, and I had to life with foster families because my own family lived across the state. I'd love to talk to anyone who was there between in '81 and '82.
