Treatment Abuse, Behavior Modification, Thought Reform > Hyde Schools
advice to current student
Anonymous:
When i was a student i reached a point where i just completly stopped believing in the whole hyde philosophy. I would get confronted on a regular basis and i used to hate it and feel like shit afterwards and that i was all alone. The important thing to know is that you are not a bad person and you are far from alone. The students are driven by insecurity there. I have never seen so many young boys packed into a weight room or so many girls with eating disorders. All teens are insecure especially at hyde. Just know that when your being confronted. The best way i survived confrontations was just agreeing with whom ever was confronting me. I did not believe a word i was told nor did i just "fake it till i make it". Almost everyone there just confronts you to get a rise out of you, but if you just agree they wont get anything. They end up looking like an ass too. Its real funny to watch some one go on like this only to have you very calmly say "yeah your right" and nothing else. I swear to you this works. I think i heard that Mr. sanner is dean of students right now at the bath campus. when i was a student he was just a teacher and i would use this on him all the time and it was hillarious because it really bothered him that i didnt react.
Sorry if this is somthing you already knew. Go ahead trash this post. I just remembered how i felt being there and maybe this will be helpful for someone going through the same thing. just remember there is nothing wrong with you. Be strong the year is almost over.

While I was at Hyde (5 years ago) I found that the best way to get through it is to stay low key. Don't argue but don't agree. If you are cornered do not react, they want that. Keep your cool and it will go away much more quickly.
Keep your distance from faculty members. When I was there we couldn't have cell phones however I do not believe this is the case anymore. Don't hide things in the ceiling tiles, they look there immediately. If you want to get alcohol and are going to steal it make sure to steal it from the place across the highway, their security is more laid back.
If you run away make sure you have enough cash to make it to at least Boston and have your id, you wont be able to do much without it. Don't hitch hike, take the bus or if you have enough cash take a plane. Get as far away as possible. Preferably someone warm where work is plentiful year round.
Or call organizations like the ACLU, they might like to help.

Lols... It seems the more cynical ya are, the better you survive. What an "education" in character!
Methinks this is not exactly what the marketing brochures are trying to depict, however...

Pretty much. The cynical learn to avoid the problems before they become true problems. If you can be completely self sufficient you can survive without too much emotional damage.

This is, of course, not exactly new news to me, but I was struck by the...er, fresh candor with which it was voiced! And not by just one, but by two of y'all... [Also, of course, this was unfortunately not news I had in hand during my time there, but...that may very well have been just me.]
I am curious whether you think this may be a generational thing, or a facet of the world just getting "smaller" and more hip to hypocrisy, or whether this pragmatism as to how best to maneuver one's soul safely through Hyde School is due to a difference in the Joe-Hyde vs. the Malcolm-Hyde style of "management?"
