This is depressing? As for mental health problems, they very much seem to be relative.
If the person has a specific problem, let’s say they wake up feeling sad everyday.
Then ok they have a health problem and could use some medical attention.
Otherwise define crazy?
I always like to look at religion vs. psychology.
Religion is an enormous force in our world, Bush’s wacky Christian followers are an interesting example I think. Damn it the world is not ending! It didn’t end the last 500 hundred times people said it was, therefore it’s not the end of days, sorry.
But most people have some sort of belief system.
According to basic psychological parameters though, overall religion is a bit nutty.
Think about Christianity, we got angels, devils and God knows what else.
From a shrinks perspective taken literally it seems like a good way to get locked up!
I lived overseas in Asia for ten years growing up, so my religious beliefs tend to be a comfortable conglomerate of Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Shinto/Taoist folk religion sort of stuff, that blended in well with the Wiccan trend in the late 90’s.
I like my religion and feel happy with it. I also absorb other religions, you don’t want to know what my mother thought of the Santa Fe wall crosses I brought back with me from a trip to New Mexico. Basically she said they looked crazy and didn’t get that they were very popular out in that predominantly Hispanic catholic area. They are also lovely, which is really why I bought them.
Not to be superstitious, but she also avoids sunlight and she did practically hiss at the sight of them and emit sulfurous smoke.
I have met people who take real offense to my religion for some odd reason, folk religion is witchcraft, and I must be nuts or satanic.
What I think is funny about this is that these people tend to be very Christian and to me they seem pretty psychologically unstable, so it’s hard to take stones thrown from their glass house and all that. You are supposed to love your neighbor, not burn them.
They seem very burning happy too, and don’t know much about Shinto or Taoism.
I am also very sure that if they were able to they would define my religion as crazy and theirs as sane and probably have me locked up.
All I’m saying is that humans have no real idea why we are here, where we came from, and where we go when we die. Basically we know squat as to the meaning of life.
As we have all lost people or critters we love, this has a real impact on us.
Life’s a mystery, often stressful, and your guess is as good as mine, therefore humans are by the nature of their existence, a bit weird.
This again is very obvious throughout history. Is there a disorder where you get too caught up in religion and sacrifice the occasional bog maiden, virgin, or witch? Or is that just the human condition?
Sorry about the above, It just seems important to define the paramiters of human sanity/ insanity for any kid out there wondering what those funny feelings they are having are. Joking again hah hah.
