Deadly Choices

Dear Underground Parents - Your agenda is very clear.  This forum in general doesn't believe in giving our troubled youth a new chance in emotional growth boarding schools, WWASP in particular. This option not only gives them a healthy alternative to learn new choices themselves, but to take it to the level of the entire family. Though I agree that this option is not for everyone, it is the most responsible choice a parent can make when their child is crashing and burning.  It is not quick fix or short-term thinking.  In the analogy of farming - Can you forget to plant in the spring, goof off all summer and then hit the ground real hard in the fall to bring in the harvest?  It doesn't work!  The only thing that endures over time is the law of the farm:  prepare the ground, plant the seed, cultivate, weed, water, and nurture growth.  In the life of a troubled teen there is no quick fix where you can just move in and magically make everything right with positive parenting, a positive attitude and a package of success formulas. Correct principles are like compasses: they are always pointing the way.  If we know how to read them, we won't get lost, confused, or fooled by conflicting voices and values. Principles such as fairness, justice, integrity, honesty and TRUST were not invented by WWASP, they are the laws of the universe that pertain to human relationships.  They are part of BEing human.  People instinctively trust those whose methods are founded upon correct principles.  We have evidence of this in our long-term relationships due to our experience in the Program. Technique is relatively unimportant compared to trust, which is the result of trustworthiness over time. A troubled teen cannot be trusted until they have attained trustworthiness. In our lives, the voice of a troubled teen, early in their stay, show they will say anything to their parents to bring them home.  The parents that believe their little angel are doing what they've always done - rescued them.  Then what?  They are determined to "educate" the public by beginning a Holy War to rid the program of "incompetent" staff and generally voice their allegations of abuse that were mustered up by their teen who couldn't handle rules and boundaries.

What I get from this forum is that most would rather work on being "right" than working on their character.  Character involves changing habits, developing values, discipling appetites and passions, and being considerate of the feelings and convictions of others.  Character development is the best manifestation of maturity.

My purpose in writing on this forum has become urgent - to the parents who have read the negative news articles regarding "allegations of abuse" by a few troubled students and an incompetent ex-Director at Dundee Ranch or any WWASP school and who decided that it would be too risky to send their child...READ THIS:  A mom and dad had signed the contract, called the escorts to bring their out of control son to one of their schools. Just hours before saving their son from his dangerous choices, they read irresponsible article(s) by a NY Times reporter and People Magazine and read the "hate" on sites like this.  They decided to give their son one more chance while they looked at other options.  Two days later they were planning his funeral - their "baby" died of an overdose of  drugs. Ultimately they are responsible for the choice in failing to keep their son alive and out of harms way.  BUT, who is responsible for poisoning their minds with sensationalism just to sell papers or magazines? My heart hurts for them, for they are the ones that have to live without their son when he could be safe and alive today.

Consciously and responsibly THINK about the choices you are making today -

Thats right, the kids are lying about the abuse, the governments of 3 countries are lying about the abuse, the parents who were returned children who had been abused to the breaking point are lying, and of course the journalists of a dozen publications are all lying. Even the former staff members are lying. It is the used car salesman that is telling the truth.

Is this really all you got out of my post?  Lying? You can show me articles all day, but until even ONE "allegation" of abuse are proven true, it is my suggestion that you read the latter part of my post.  These "sensationalized" and "agenda driven" articles have directly affected a family in crisis and it can't be taken back.  It is my view that Mr. Weiner's conscience needs a wake up call.

Anon, apparently you have never read the court record of the Virginia case that can be found on Fornits.  Read what the Virginia judge told the father who sent his 12 year old son to Tranquillity Bay.  The judge was not impressed with the WWASP program.

Carey:
Anon,

There are two things needed for us to believe in these programs.

1)  Let them be regulated by outside agencies.

2)  Let us make unannounced visits to these programs, allowing full access to all areas.

Without these two things occuring, you will never convince those of us who know what is really going on in these places.

Do not expect those of us who are educated and who have common sense to blindly trust the likes of you.

I would think that if WWASP schools were as great as you say they are, you would welcome us with open arms.  I would think you would want to show off what you have to offer.
