Parents Jailed For Children Wearing Shock Collars
« on: September 14, 2007, 04:44:51 PM »
JACKSBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A Claiborne County man has been accused with raping and abusing his children, while his wife has been charged with failing to report the alleged abuse.

Police arrested Wayne Burkhart Tuesday, and later charged him with two counts of rape and aggravated child abuse after his 17-year-old daughter reported abuse to a high school resource officer.

Police arrested Burkhart's wife, Rebecca, the day before.

The couple's five children range in age from 11 to 18-years-old.

An arrest report said Wayne Burkhart shocked some of the children regularly with a dog shock collar he used to train hunting dogs.

The Department of Children's Services took the Burkhart children, while the 18-year-old stayed with a friend.

Wayne Burkhart's bond was set at $1 million. Rebecca Burkhart's bond was set at $100,000.

The couples' scheduled court appearance will be Sept. 24.

High school resource officer? Sounds like every single program needs to have one of them visit and have one on one with students or something the system seemed to work in this case.

Before you get too excited, a high school resource officer is a regular cop, who happens to be stationed on campus. That way if any laws are broken by a student on campus, there is a cop right there on the scene to make an arrest.

Yes, the system worked in this case. A girl was abused, reported it to the cop at school, and action was taken against the abusive parents. But in many more cases, the cop isn't really there to help students, he's there to arrest students.

Suppose that a program in Pigsknuckle, Utah has one of the local good ol' boys from the Pigsknuckle PD stationed at the "school." How do you think he's going to respond to a student claiming to be a victim of abuse? On the other hand, how do you think he's going to respond to a student accused of having contraband smuggled in from the outside?

Well, that's just great.  Judge Roterberg Center can do it all day long, but one parent decides to use their particular brand of therapy and gets thrown in jail...  Shit's fucked up.

A little shock therapy never hurt nobody! LOL!!!!!  Anyway, what a sick man. So, he had this dog shock training collar on her so if she wasn't doing it exactly the way he told her to do it, he would push the button, and she's get a jolt of electricity?

Now, that's just plain sick!
