Instead of killing ourselves we sould do something

If every program survivor who has tragically committed suicide had instead a place to go like the guest who envisioned "The Tire Ranch" they could of had an escape and then could of dedicated their life to helping other people or something.

The new generation of program survivors do they have something other than negative memories to look forward to? Nothing has realy changed, has it?

The tire ranch sounds cool.

Well this new generation of survivors have places like fornits, ISAC, and others that the first generation didn't have. Also more non-survivors are aware of this issue and are doing something about it. The situation still sucks but the new generation of kids have a growing support base in cyberspace. You folks are really making a difference and one day the true worth of your actions will be laid out for all to see.

Keep the faith folks....

At the risk of stirring a hornets nest here ... I was wondering if people who have been so badly scarred, traumatised, both mentally and physically, would ever be able to lead lives that involve moving on from what's happened to them.

I sk this because it doesn't matter where you are, you can't run away from yourself, your feelings or whats happened to you in the past

Don't get me wrong, if anyone's for support its me and The Tire Ranch is an excellent idea - but I would like to see more prevention put in place rather than someone having to pick up these completely shattered pieces that are someone's life

I think it requires something more than The Tire Ranch. It requires a societal shift in attitudes and beliefs. This problem is rooted in multiple areas of our culture -- everything from political attitudes, modern interpretations of religion & morality, government policies (the ineffective "war on drugs" for example), the ever-present mass media and the interests of corporate profits -- Big Pharma, for example, wanting every consumer understand what ails them so they can sell them the very expensive drug that alleviates it.

In the final analysis, it's all about fear and how we as a society are trained to respond to that fear. Fear of failure, fear for our safety, fear of not being "successful" or loved or attactive or of having enough money. Fear for our children's future, fear of taking risks. These fears are mostly exaggerated and are deliberately inflamed by those who stand to gain by exploiting those fears.

As Ginger has said, art (and by extension music) can eventually change the culture, but it takes too long. Political action is quicker, although that also takes too long for some people's taste.

Make noise! The internet is the greatest tool ever invented for enabling the power of the individual to be heard, but there are other tools as well. Use them all.

Great post.  And also depressing.  Despite all the information out there, the status quo has as of yet failed to acknowledge most of it.  The pressure to conform to society's take on these issues is sometimes so extreme it sounds absolutely crazy when you play it back afterwards in your mind.  Could all these seemingly normal people be wrong?  Unfortunately, yes.
