Do you love your parents?
« on: February 16, 2007, 01:53:25 AM »
This is a question for everyone not just program kids.

Growing up I can never once remember using the word love. I never told my parents I love you. Or my siblings for that matter. The word was forbidden to me and our household. Unless we were talking to the dog.

The first time I said it was to a former lover. Over time with this person, the word's anxiety giving significance and impact lessened on me, and I was able to say it without giving much thought.

Love was not a part of our family. My mom was too drunk and afraid to receive it or give it and gone by the time I turned six. My dad too distracted dating young girls or trying to start the new brady bunch with us in tow.

I notice some people and families throw around I love you's like it's nothing. I always take great notice in this seemingly simple act that these people do not even notice. To them it's like the sun ray's shining down, it's unquestionable.

I hope to have a family like that some day.

So to answer my own question, I am not sure. I still can't do it. I can't even type it. I told my friend this one time and she said, the answer is obvious you just don't want to accept it. Apathy, I suppose.
