HLA to be Licensed
« on: January 18, 2007, 01:02:41 PM »
It took three attempts, but word is that the Office of Regulatory Services in Ga, under a new Director, has determined that

HLA will be applying for a license

Never, ever give up. Persistence and organization. It sometimes happens that justice is served.

Strike while the iron's hot. ORS needs to know that there is another such facility operating unlicensed in their lovely state.... Darrington. I'd suggest you put a group of people together and start the complaint process. It should go smoother, now that ORS has a Director willing to do his job, and who is now more familiar with the industry.

Its a small price to pay Deborah. I'd to take a moment and thank all the people who swore up and down we weren't accomplishing anything. Susie, Aften puppets ect. you know who you all are. You make this victory so much sweeter. Thanks guys.

Excellent!  People around Knoxville say Peninsula Village is untouchable, too.  I hope they take note of HLA's plight.  PV's not on very solid ground, anyway.

A couple questions
« Reply #4 on: January 18, 2007, 11:01:19 PM »
Just a few questions:

What are the requirements for licencing?(is there a chance in hell HLA might pull it off.  In Cali the place must have licenced counselors, access to phones, etc etc...)

What are the penalties for non-compliance (in Cali it's 250$ a day fine)

Can they appeal?

Reason i ask these questions is because most of these places choose to be Private Schools because they can get around more stringent regulations.  If HLA cannot comply, my guess is they are fucked.

Here i see HLA as having a few options:
**   They can put up a show and convince the state that they are complying (Terezin style).  I think this is the most likely option.  If they attempt to do this, I suggest getting in touch with the inspectors and raining on their parade.
**   They can attempt to comply ( unlikely since with most programs it is not feasable )
**   They can appeal the decision ( Likely if they can, in which case their lawyers will attempt to keep it in court indefinitely, and their pr machine will go into overdrive... )

Yes, there are requirements and regulations. Not the best I've seen, pretty lame actually. They could stand to be updated, but better than none. No complaints at the moment.
Perhaps at some later date we'll compose a list of suggestions for the state to consider. They have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, therefore don't write in adequate safeguards. For now, the bases are covered.

i think the most likely option would be the first about them putting on a false face.  the state of georgia does a poor job of followup in cases such as this

HLA is in pretty piss-poor shape financially at the moment, isn't it?  I thought that was an issue.
