Spoke w/John around Thanksgiving of 2002. We had not spoken for almost 12 years.  He sounded really great.  Had a wonderful wife and 2 great kids.  He seemed very happy w/where he was and where he was going in life.   I am so glad that we got to speak.  He was a wonderful guy from a wonderful family and he will be missed dearly by all those that knew him.  Thanks John - it was a blessing to have you as my friend.

I remember John, he was a good guy in every way.
It was almost as if he was only in the program to help push his brother Jim ahead faster.  He reminded me of the character Robert Duvall played in the movie "Apocalypse Now,"  He somehow knew that with all the crap that went on in there, he was not going to get so much as a scratch.  I am sure that he wound up with alot of inward scars that probably carried through his adult years, but he always held a stance of quiet reserve that I still to this day hold a lot of respect for.
I hold his untimely death as a tragedy and a reminder that we are so fragile in the eyes of God
and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones.  I can never forget the time during the Chicken Pox breakout of 1980, when my brother and I were tapped to take care of his brother Jim in our home and the bonding that took place, and the day when his dad came to take him home once he was no longer contagious.  Those were some good times, and I hope Jim and his dad can remember "Patterson Horizons" with fond memories.
Take care Jim and if you need someone to talk to, or just go fishing with, my name is in the phone book under R.C. Patterson, give me a call sometime, if you want.  You guys always held a special place in my heart, take care, Bob in St. Pete.

Inside a warehouse behind Tyrone Mall
we walked in darkness, kept hitting the wall.
I took the time to feel for the door,
I had been \"treated\" but what the hell for?

Wow,
I drop out for a few whiles and one of the Sailors has gone.  Too damn young for a man to die.  My thoughts go out to his kids and wife, and of course, to Jim, his brother.  You were good people to me way back when...
