My friend was also telling me that his doctor mentioned there are now NEW hep strains. Specifically, D and E. I have no idea what those are about.

I have to disagree with you there Deb - about a virus being a virus. They can differ greatly in how you contract them, and what they then do to you, and then how you get rid of them, if it is even possible.

I guess you'd know more than the leading Virologists in the country. Pardon me.

Did you read any of the info at the link I provided? Ever heard of recombinant viruses? You need to learn. It's all in the info I provided. Bugs mutate and science helps that along, much quicker than it would occur without intervention.

Good lord, Deborah ease up! I know all about the AIDS/Strecker connection already. We talked about it extensively back when I was a marxist/feminist in college. I even wrote a song about it on my banjo.

They decided to play just a little joke
To make all the fags, blacks and drug users choke
It took them a while, but they figured out how
They went and took a virus from a sheep and a cow
And a cow
Oh yeah, and a cow

That's all I remember.

Anyway, I'm already "learned", thanks. Not sure how convinced I am of the theory, but I'm not completely discounting it, either.

If I ever come up with a song for hep C, I'll be sure to let everyone know.

My post wasn't intended to be a 'confrontation'. Read it with a different tone. Granted the one before it was intended sarcastically. And, it saddens me when people take the lame excuses provided by their 'paternalistic' government and WHO.
It's about as discouraging as telling a friend about the harm done by the industry, being ignored, then learning her child was killed in a program.
I had a moment of caring too much. Sorry.
Cool song, btw. If you can remember the rest, would be interested.
I am curious what about the theory didn't jibe for you.

It did then. I totally believed it. Now, though, I'm kind of a die hard skeptic about things. Maybe it was because it was labeled a "conspiracy theory". Even though I am fully aware that conspiracies do indeed exist. Like I said, I'm not sold on it, but I'm rarely sold on anything.

Not like I disbelieve in germ warfare, either. I know it exists. We've got lots of nasties in petri dishes mutating all the time.

Oh yeah, I remembered the first two lines of the song.

Many years ago, in the old U.S.
A whole bunch of scientists were running up tests

And then it picks up where I started off in the previous post.

And that was it. That was the whole song. I write short songs.  I might have had a second verse, I dunno.

Apparently I know more than this one; if this one thinks "a virus is a virus".

But Seriously - what do any of these articles you linked to have to do with HCV? And where do any of them say "a virus is a virus is a virus"? True - I only read over three of them - but I I didn't see anything like that in those I read. Looks to me like his argument is "some" viruses are man made; and that the HIV virus was made with evil intent. I don't believe this myself; at least not the intentional part. I did recently see a documentary on the development of the polio vaccine that argued the HIV virus was the result of sloppy careless work in a Dutch owned lab in Africa; where they used fresh chimp kidneys to grow the virus; and then injected many African's with the resulting vaccine - possibly also introducing a mutated chimp virus that became HIV. This was my understanding anyway. It was plausible and in my mind possible. But even if true, it was not done intentionally and with malice. It would be more like reckless homicide than murder 1.

But even if it were, and even if your "leading Virologists" are correct; how does that change the need for people to learn if they have Hepatitis; and to be treated if so? Debates on the origin of AIDS can be interesting but I don't see how either POV changes the need for people to learn if they have Hepatitis, and to be treated if they do.
