First thing I did was introduce myself to Nick, and hand him a flier with information on Izzy, suggesting he contact Phil Elberg or Maia Slavitz for more information. The cast was also handed information relating to her after I learned Izzy requested info of them as well. Now that Nick knows, I trust he will set things "straight" (no pun intended) and ditch the piggybacking bitch. I am glad Izzy did not end up showing up (or if she did... I didn't see her), since this would have detracted from the purpose of the movie if a confrontation did occur (it would have)... However, I felt it would be prudent to warn him ahead of time of her allegiances should Izzy decided to use the Film's questions afterward as a platform to promote her agenda.
From talking to Nick, he wanted to portray the family breakdown caused by program. He did a great job accomplishing this. any more on this would be spoiling it.
Editing: Although I could probably grumble about the EDL (for a few shots... *ducks*), the editing was generally very good.
Music: Far beyond what most indie films could dream of.
Acting: Some of it wasn't acting. Nick's father was in the film. He did a fantastic job. Nick was lucky. Many of i'm sure would wish "shit.. I wish my dad would have done that"... The cast was well chosen and I can't really think of a point where the acting broke down.
Doctor Hiller ("any relation ... purely coincidental" 8-) ) chose his name by combining a certain 20th century dictator's name with that of a certain non-factual charachter. He knew the storyline revolved around the final days of a program and thought Hitler's last moments in a besieged bunker (but still as stubborn and charasmatic) would be a fitting analogy. His performance was ... stunning. The way the trailer is edited does not do his performance justice. Few survivors could even him in the eye after the movie. Dr. Hiller had no idea his charachter was (purely by coincidence) real until today. He's pissed. His next role, coincidentally, happens to be in a slasher film, playing a psychotic doctor who abuses his patients.
I wish i could devote paragraphs to all the cast I talked to but I can't remember the names (sorry... lol.. shit with names). Nick's charachter did a great job, as did his sister. I talked for a while with the actor who played his oldcomer. Nice guy in person actually. Pretty much all the actors were disgusted, shocked and appalled, especially after only today being told that the film was not only both factual but also autobiographical.
Summary: Buy the damn DVD when it is released. It's very very good. My dad learned a lot from it (thankfully, he was open-minded enough to come, and we talked at length about the rest of the day with Rachael, and on the train ride back). Thank you Nick. He now realizes far more than I had hoped he would... Thank you.
Notable People (who I recognized) attending:
Kat (From CAFETY)
- fun fact (CAFETY) is apparantly pronounced "safety"... with a "C"
Maia Slavitz
- looking for survivors affected with PTSD to talk to a shrink for a possible congressional hearing on the subject.
Rachael from fornits (AARC survivor)
- promised to kick "The Who" in the nads if he showed up.
Apart from that... I probably would have recognized more people if they had avatars for heads.
