Fun on 1st phase "insane Mic Talks"
« on: January 28, 2003, 04:17:00 PM »
After responding to the last post I thought this was a good follow-up thread.

Anyone remember some of the more ridiculous Mic Talks given by the parents?

There was one little kid who had just come into the program...he was only 12, had never touched drugs, but his parents were hardcore holy rollers and were convinced he was headed down Satans path...

Anyhow, for his Mic Talk they couldnt come up with any REAL past incidents to confront him with, so his mother related this EXTREMELY emotional story about how one day the kid had made her feel "used, angry and hurt" because he kept yelling for her to come upstairs over and over because he was stuck in the bathroom without toilet paper.  It was so hilarious, because she was practically hysterical with emotion....crying and wailing about him demanding her to get him some toilet paper....

I mean, it doesnt get any more ludicrous than that....any one else have a good one?

My parents were in NC and I was in Atlanta, and being told that the average time on first phase was 3-6 weeks they were really mad when I didn't get talk after three weeks.  I suppose it was alot for them to have to drive to Atlanta to visit their terrible daughter in the rehab...

Anyway when I stood up, my mom told me that she was really disappointed that I couldn't even get it together enough to earn talk to make their trip to Atlanta somewhat worthwhile.  My dad refused to speak to me, he wouldn't even say that he loved me, he just shook his head like he was disgusted with me and passed the mic.

Nice huh?

Kind of makes you wonder how long straight would have been around if during the intake the Exec.'s would have been forced to practice the same honesty as the prisioners?

My parents were never hard on me as they wouldn't have know a "feeling" if it had come up and bit them on the ass.

THe best one I can remember, though, is Nathan Moore's dad. Nathan, who came into the program with a cast on, had just given his first introduction and his parent's got the mic. Nathan's dad starts out, in a wonderful southern drawl, with something like, "Nathan, it is good to see you beginning to get honest, but it is funny to me that you forgot to mention stealing that man's car; his only means of transportation. And  it's funny to me that you failed to remember...." This went on for some time until the exec's said, "What about your feelings dad?"

We gave Nathan crap about this for a very long time.!

Thge whole mic talk thing originated in the seed (but of course, you knew that).

When I was on the front row, the protocol was when you were handed the mic, if you were going home you would yell "mom, dad, IM COMING HOME!" and the whole place would applaud, old nazi women would cry, etc, etc.

Anyway, this one guy every friday would stand up and yell the magic words and the place would burst out. ONLY, it wasn't true and he would get them every week. The lead staffer would try to calm the place down shaking his/her head no and waving their arms frantically to calm the place down.

hysterical.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The people who ran straight had the best of intentions. I hope they reached their destination.

Ahhahahaha this is probably why I still have a shred of sanity left. Laughter.

Boston took the entire group down and had the big ass curtains shut and totally went nuts during open meeting. I got to leap up and sit in staff chair for and second. Brief second. I love chaos.

Fucking disater....soon after we all went to safe houses the group was not in a "good place" LMAO still. hehehe  :skull:

The legislature is to society as a physician is to the patient. If a physician ignored side effects of medications like today's legislators ignore the side effects of their legislation, the physician would be accused of malpractice. I accuse today's legislators (with rare exception) of legislative malpractice. Many of the ills that are so obvious in our society are a direct result of previous legislation. Their solution? More laws!

A person with a bit of wisdom is one who will criticize the times. This is the basis of disaster. A person who is discreet in speeking will be useful during the good times and will avoid punishment during the bad.

Or a person who owns their behavior does not have to speak in riddles or map out their actions and live in the shadows and in fear because they are not really living.

Kady, I would very much like for you to elaborate on this chaos incident. What led up to it? What all happened when the shit hit the fan? What's this about "safe houses?" (We were always in houses - 'host homes') Please take your time and tell all, since I guess you're not going down to Texas today to catch a buzz.  ::rocker::  ::cheers::

Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or comitting seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead.

Ok we had been in a bad place for a really long time. There were tons of misbs on both sides and when open meeting commenced we were in group for the most part because of the fact that this one girl Laura had kicked through the infirmery door and the other infirmerys were filled with misbs too.

Well open meeting starts and the parents start to do there thing and I am sure it started like with someone being sat up but it was a chain reaction that took the entire group down and had all the loverly 5th phasers scrapping on the floor in their dress clothes.

The misb group was sent to host homes 24/7 It was great for me! I was one of the last ones to come back. I guess others had meaner host homes but they called them safe houses. they were supposed to convince us all to "work our program" hello? No. After that they got really really strict. They never had misbs in group anymore and everyone went to the mental wards one after another if the did not give in to the constant restraints having your mouth covered not getting anything to eat because you would not ask x-amount of times to pick it up ect. I went to RI pysch ward Laura went somewhere and my other girl Bonnie did too. that was it place was being investigated I found out later on. I thought we actually won. Nope they would of probably tortured us forever and never let us out if they weren't under investigation.

At one point we had so many misbs we had the police called and some dude was up in the ceiling. The group was always down on the floor. The infirmarys were destroyed. People flung food on exec staff. It was chaos.

They were angry. They threatened to ship us out to other Straights. I did not want that but I was not going to stop. Now that I heard of St Pete shudder!!!!

any questions.......not you samurai

were you even in Straight?

Not straight but a spin-off project called LIFE, for three years. Many of the same experiences as the straight posts.

Love shack was on heavy play on the radio I was 14. Love Shack and We didn't start the Fire always make me feel nervous because they were the last songs I heard on the radio before my intake Nov 11 1989 isn't that weird?
