It is not true that IP addys were used by admin or mods to "out" posters.  In the past, OTHER POSTERS have analyzed writing styles and usernames and compared them to other sites, like StrugglingTeens or CEDUalumni where the same poster has revealed his or her identity and that information was used by other regular users, not mods or admin, to "out" the other poster.

Examples are Anne Hall (Ottawa5) who was tracked down by her username on CEDUalumni and KarenInDallas who was tracked down by her AIM handle being linked to some college boards and StrugglingTeens.  No mod or admin aided in these events, ever.  This was done by clever users of their own device.

No.
Registering a username does not divulge anything about a person, only what they choose to put in their profile.
No one's anon posts have been assigned to their username unless they agreed to it.

If an IP address was obtained from Struggling Teens or another site, it still has to be compared to an IP address on fornits to reveal the identity of the poster.  This means some moderator was checking IP addresses and comparing them.

That's totally false about mods giving out IP's.  It's really simple and I personally "outed" you, Anne.  All I had to do was take information you posted here, i.e. son at RMA, years of attendence, affection for Wasserman, turn of phrase, etc and start plugging it into Google.  

Very soon I found your posts at CEDUAlumni under the username "gentiana" with, guess what?  Your full name and email address in your profile.  Dumb of you to post it.  

Then I searched on your username "gentiana" with the keyword "CEDU".  What did I get?  That's right, posts from StrugglingTeens with your email addy linked to them.  Another piece of the puzzle.  Then, all I had to do was plug in your IP addy, conveniently SUPPLIED for me by LON WOODBURY at the bottom of all your posts (be mad at yourself and Lon, dummy!), into an IP locator and lo and behold, your city of residence was known.  All that was needed then was to plug your name and city into Google and I got a direct hit on your address and phone number.

No help from mods, no special tools, only your own arrogance and stupidity.

Want some advice?  DON'T POST YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET! And DON'T ATTACK PEOPLE IN THE SECURITY OF ANONYMITY!

That's how it's done.  No IP's from mods or admin, just clever people that know how to follow the information and build on it, and a painfully stupid and arrogant target! :D  :D

Hey, dimwit... anytime you connect to any server to do anything at all on the internet. that server 'gets' your IP address.

IT HAS to do that, in order to send the data to your computer it needs to send, like the page layout, the text, and the images, and backgrounds.  :rofl:

How the fuck do you think it works? Broadcast to EVERYONE and anonymous requests?
