We have been pulling together data, for awhile now, to determine how Therapeutic boarding schools compared with the public school industry and the results have shown it to be a very safe place for kids who are at risk.  One thing I thought was missing was a way to rate the individual schools to determine which are of a higher quality and which straddle the lower scale as far as safety and service.  The National Association of Therapeutic schools and Programs (NATSAP) has been , among other things, working to provide better options for teens and their parents who are struggling at home.  Many people here on fornits as well as parents and previous students have been asking for the many schools to be regulated and have oversight.  This has been circulating and I thought I would post it here also.  Although it isnt a rating system NATSAP recently announced the following changes to their membership requirements:

Effective May 1, 2007, all programs applying for membership in NATSAP must meet the following requirements:

1.   Licensure by the appropriate state agency authorized to set and oversee standards of therapeutic and/or behavioral healthcare for youth and adolescents or accreditation by a mental health accreditation agency.
2.   Therapeutic services with oversight by a qualified clinician.
3.   Compliance with NATSAP Ethical Principles and NATSAP Principles of Good Practice (see www.natsap.org).

We believe this will further raise the bar and makes another step in many towards a continuous process of improvement in the industry.
Parents who are considering a TBS or wilderness program should add
NATSAP to their list of research stops.

Who's "we"? Got a frog in your pocket?
Or is that an indirect admittance of having involvement with NATSAP?

No Deb, it's the voices in his head.

What more can we expect from a guy who states:

and the results have shown it to be a very safe place for kids who are at risk.

with absolutely no facts to base it on.

The we, I referred to, are the people who have been contributing to building the matrix.

No, I dont have any personal affiliation to NATSAP.

I want to take a moment and apologize to anyone who might have been offended by the following comment.

Quote
I will fully acknowledge that some stories probably arent real, and some are embellished but many more are not. Most are true. Do you have a basis for claiming otherwise?”

I made it during a private dicussion with Cindy, I intended it as nothing more then mere speculation, however if it is perceived as more than that I apologize. In retrospect I recognize that no child would ever have need to lie about being abused in a TBS since they all abuse children and the truth is horrific enough.

Again I am very sorry to anyone I may have offended, I have never doubted a single claim nor have I ever dismissed an accusation of abuse.

"Kilgore Trout" died yesterday after his alias Kurt Vonnegut jr. suffered brain injury from a fall that occurred a few weeks ago.  This came just 23 years after he botched his last suicide attempt.

Just when you think someone has sunk to lowest level humanly possible, you get this:

Now, let's examine this, Who: Let's say, for argument's sake that a kid's very own counselor sexually abuses him/her. ASR's plan, as you verified with them like I did, is to have that child report the abuse directly to the person that perpetrated it.

This is downright scary and paves the road for child abuse. I would avoid this facility at all costs. It's dangerous!

"Sure, DJ, of course it is possible.  The guy on the abuse hot line could talk dirty to the kids also..."

This gem had to be posted in his own thread for time imemorial!  WOW! :o

I just wonder how this guy lives with himself...

Oh, no I think I made some DJ mad again.  This is a result of a final determination that ASR isnt required "under law" to have a hot line placed in the school.

DJ wasnt happy with this ruling.

ASR is a TBS, no question about it. You yourself acknowledged that TBS's are subject to the law. So it appears they are in violation.
