dunno i could see a concerned and responsible parent looking at ASR as an option asking questions like
What specifically does the therapy consist of?
Parents are given an overview but not specifics line by line. Ask any therapist if parents go over every detail?.they just don?t. They depend on the professionals to do their jobs
What are the benefits and risks of doing things in this fashion?
Same as above
What is the view of the medical establishment of this?
If the child has a specific ailment, or on a specific medication I believe it is discussed in more detail.
Is there any literature you can give me on such therapy?
I had specific questions regarding how often the therapy sessions were and met the people in charge. They were very responsive and answered all my questions
So many books are banned. My daughter is a bright girl, what is the educational benefit of this?
They encourage reading at ASR. I sent my daughter several books from a series she was reading before she went in and it was allowed. I think they try to steer some kids away from books which may detract them from their work, maybe too violent, could be many reasons. But with the reduced access to television and video games their time spent reading really escalates so this isn?t a problem. There is plenty to read, if the book you want is banned read another and save that one for when you graduate, no biggie.
Appointments every weeknight , What time is allocated to homework? What about leisure?
Yes, I did ask about this and the schedule is full. They have access to the gym and swimming pool, cross country skiing in the winter time, ping pong. They have date night, where you choose a boy/girl and go into town for pizza and a movie. Homework is done in the study area during the day. They have white water rafting and picnics etc. they keep you busy, many kids are not use to this.
Work assignments which include janitorial duties you say? i guess this certainly teaches a work ethic? Will my child be paid for such jobs?
Ha,Ha, thats funny, this always comes up?.. I remember one girl that was really upset about having to vacuum the lobby, when I was visiting, she said it was maids work. She was obviously never given chores at home.
The way it works?? everyone is responsible for different areas (their own rooms of course) my daughter was in charge of the lobby and keeping it up. She had to work herself but she also had to direct others. This is great for self esteem, team building, work ethic, working with others etc. it is very beneficial
I really don?t expect kids to understand this, I didn?t when I was in high school so blast away, I don?t mind.
