You have no idea what it is like to be a kid at one of these places

Neither do you. You know what it's like to sit on your ass and pay someone else to do something.

If any of us can add to a balanced discussion or view and add value I think it is worth being put out there for others to read

Since this naturally excludes you can we safely assume that will now shut the fuck up? You add nothing to the conversation because you know nothing. Nor are you interested in learning, something you've proven time and time again. It's about the only thing on here you've ever been able to back up. Speaking of which are you now or ever going to back up the following claims?

Provide the statement I have made which suggest this to be true.

Thanks, I can appreciate that.  Almost all my friends growing up are not dead or in jail (I had one friend who hung himself in high school).  I dont know of anyone of them who went away to a TBS.  Family upbringing was enough for them as it is for 99% of all kids.  Its those very few that need a little bit extra help that they cant get at home or by local services.  Not every kid that is in trouble or "At Risk"  needs to go to a TBS.  I don?t think anyone is advocating that.  A TBS is a last resort, when all other efforts have failed.....I know many believe that all these kids are there because they smoked pot once, take it from me, its a bunch of crap.  Many of these kids are there because they need help.  I am sure some parents over react and make a poor choice, but this is an anomaly.

.

Bullshit.  Just take a look at any of the so called assessment tests on any of these places websites.  It's ridiculous.  If your child has two or more of the following, they may need treatment.    Then they go on to describe just about every single teen in America.

Within the last six months, has your child:

Had any changes in behavior and / or mood? (i.e. sad, angry, withdrawn, etc.)

Exhibited depressive symptoms? (i.e. weight loss, weight gain, excessive sleep, etc.)

Had problems getting along with others?

Do you suspect that your child has used drugs or alcohol?

Has your child disregarded family rules and parental guidance?

Has you child been able to escape consequences due to the ability to manipulate people and situations?

Had problems in school? (i.e. poor grades, challenging authority, etc.)

Intentionally frightened others?

Made threatening statements in writing?

Implied that they may have a plan for violent or suicidal behavior?

Implied that they have identified a target for violence?

Been destructive to property?

They're not aiming for 1% of the population.  They want 'em all.

hi anne,  Yes, I agree and it is a sales pitch.  One thing we need to keep in mind is that these places are in place to make a profit.  I don?t think anyone is trying to mislead anyone to this fact, its upfront  (almost everyone that has a business puts out a list of warning signs, if they can, to flag prospective customers to purchase their product).  They are saying that if your child has a few of these on the list they may need treatment and sure they may.  They may need treatment if your child has all of these they may need treatment if they don?t have any.  But it seems they are putting out warning signs to raise a flag. Parents aren?t going to be looking at these web sites unless they have concerns.  I think if it does anything it may raise awareness that you need to pay attention to, and make you take a second look at, your child and how he/she is doing, and get your child help locally.  This isn?t a bad thing?

Oh my God, a new or future fornits parent!!!  As usual your advice is deadly,  TV is probably the worse thing you can do to your kids, you may think you have the answers but you are going to do more damage than you know.  You should try to limit TV as much as possible, try spending more time with them, read some books, go to a museum or the park.  But shut the TV off!!

Ganja, I actually have to thank you, I had a cause and did what you said I was sent on a mission and picked up the Deluxe edition, sat back and enjoyed myself.  I grabbed the Quadrophenia CD also when I was out (haven?t opened it yet).  I skipped around a lot for the first hour.  I settled into ?My Generation? which was different than the original release as I remember.  It ran on for 16 minutes, similar to what I had heard in concert in ?73, they really let Townsend loose on this edition.  I caught ?Happy Jack? which I have not heard in years and ?smash the mirror? ? anyway
You're welcome. I was glad when you said you intended to take my advice and treat yourself to one of the best live recordings ever to find its way onto pressed vinyl or optical plastic, not to mention it was created by the group that bears your namesake.

Listen to disc 2 start to finish. They pretty much perform Tommy in its entirety (though the order's a little jumbled) in one amazing chunk. It's beyond classic rock; Live at Leeds is pure genius. I will have to listen to the LP again sometime soon for an in-depth comparison....  There is like twice as much material on those two CDs as there was on the original album release.... pretty amazing shit for 1970!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_at_Leeds

Yo Ganja,  Yes the 70?s was an amazing time, I spent a good part of it going to college and chasing concerts up and down the east coast.  I practically lived in a van when I wasn?t in school, 1974 I took time off of school.  We caught "King Crimson" at the spectrum in, I think April that year, and traveled down to Florida with some friends to see "Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show - Tonic for the soul" (long story we knew a friend of a friend and had a blast back stage) They were mostly local (new Jersey) and were trying to break out and we went down to add support and decided to make a year of it, caught George Harrison at the Omni in Atlanta.  Saw a ton of groups on the way up the coast (Don?t expect you to know most of these groups it was way before your time I believe).
The most unusual concert I was ever in was in Mobile.  We were passing thru Alabama (not sure if it was ?74 might have been ?73) We went to see the group Chicago (because we happened to be there, 5 rows from the stage) and the place was so restrictive, no smoking, no talking, people in uniforms walked up and down the isles to remind you to put out your cigarette or no talking (I don?t think anyone thought of smoking anything else).   Bright lights were on the audience the whole time.  All the kids had hair cuts and were dressed up for church and would clap at the end of each song (I think we were the only ones in jeans).  They ended up with something like ?Color my World? and afterwards said ?good night? and in unison shouted ?You suck Mobile!!? ,Ha,Ha,?. it was a very strange experience, very strange night.
Anyway, I am babbling (way too much information), sorry, but anyway thanks for the Who tip, Oh,  ?Tommy?s Holiday camp?  seemed different?  I know they credited Moon with the song but it was all Townshend on Banjo and I think he was on key board also?  Whats up with that do you know? Was this the original track?

Yes Who but what about the kids who don't need to be there? Why would these programs advocate keeping kids who don't need help?

You're giving parenting advice? Who by your own admission your daughter didnt speak to you for two years because of what a terrible parent you are. You giving someone parenting advice is like me trying to walk someone through brain surgery. Stay away from what you don't know or can't handle.

Still waiting on you to grow a pair and back up your own claims.

Pale Ale?  Like what Bud Lite? Whimpy stuff, swill...... Try something with a little more muscle.  Kick it up a notch to an Amber Ale, like a "Sam's or Fat Tire"

Sam's Fat Tire? Is that the brand of paint thinner you huff? If so it would explain quite a bit. Now either retract your statements or back them up.

Bud lite is (barely) a lager, dumbass.

Pale ales are not necessarily 'whimpy' by any means, its merely a catchall classification for beers made with ale yeasts that are made primarily by pale malts and focus on hoppyness instead of maltyness.

At any rate, comparing Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale to bud lite is about as stupid as every other analogy that comes out of you...   especially when they actually bother to include caramel malt so its not just a one dimensional hop-tea with some alcohol
