Ok, here a direct question.  What evidence do you have to back up your claim that this method of treatment (the levels, "positive   peer culture" [read: snitch culture, kids being rewarded for ratting out other kids. In Straight it was referred to as "holding someone accountable" and was very often some vague, arbitrary "concern" conjured up to gain points with staff], isolation, LifeSteps) is effective?

Wonderful character builder, eh Who?  Teaches you to get along in a society that espouses this ideal in many ways. "In a world of competition life's portrayed as a contest where we're forced to live by making gains at others expense, but no-one's really gaining when perpetual conflict is the result of our relationships based on pretense."

My evidence are the graduates of one TBS which I followed thru the program along with my daughter.  I knew them when they went in and have been in contact with many of them since.

I don?t agree that isolation, being rewarded for telling staff etc was used at ASR.  But my evidence are the kids I met and read about.  I also realize that some kids do not do well and it is not effective for all children. So I don?t agree with one size first all.

How bout those LifeSteps?  Goodtobefree wrote some pretty powerful stuff.  You agreed that it was pretty much what your daughter went through.  What GTBF described is abuse, plain and simple

How bout those LifeSteps?

My daughter told me they were pretty intense at the time.  She remembers getting a lot of support from peers who had gone thru the life steps before her, the night before.  The kids were really supportive of each other, she made a lot of friends there and did a ton of growing during that year.

That's why it really is pointless to continue this.  It's like that whole rape analogy.  Yeah, I ended up being stronger but it doesn't mean it was a good thing.  LifeSteps are emotional rape.

For all I know my dad could be out there just like you saying the same things. In fact, I am sure he is, not on the net, but in person he says things very similar to what you say. That's why it's hard to take you seriously, or believe what you say. Because I know my dad is full of shit, and speaks from his own need to believe the fantasy he paid good money for. Programs are not for kids, they are for parents.
