I can't imagine anyone would send a child afterwards...

If you dont mind my asking, WHY are you looking for a place to send your child away?

Is there a need that would somehow be fulfilled by nonconsentual 'treatment'? If not, ethnically speaking and from the perspective of efficacy of treatment, you shouldn't.

My daughter in and out of drug rehab three times. Nothing seems to help. I think god is the only one who can help her.

Try a fourth rehab. It is not unusual for people to go six, before they wiseup. This I will say to you and your daughter. NEVER GIVE UP. People think that because two or three rehabs fail there is no hope. NOT TRUE. Aftercare outpatient treatment is crucial. Have a competent psychiatrist or psychologist examine her. Get support from alanon.  One of the good things about AA is not so much the efficacy of the twelve steps, but that it can be used as a social support network. You don't have to work a single step. In my community they have groups for atheists.

Hey, REALITY CHECK TIME!

Programs have NO positive effect on lowering recidivism rates for drug use or abuse. At all. Programs in the past 30 years of the industry being in existance have NOT ONCE proven to work at all, for anything!

The ONLY effect is that its less likely for a kid to get drugs in a program, but guess what? You cant lock em up forever, theyre gonna get out, and theyre no less likely to use drugs. But, well, hey, talk to people here, lots of them used drugs for the first time, or harder ones, after leaving a program, because of all the suffering and pent-up stress they went through with no outlet for so long.

Sure, you could put the program in for YOUR piece of mind, but the only thing youre doing is putting her live on hold for the duration of that program, if not setting her back, and making her live in an emotionally abusive bubble-world that she will have to un-learn as soon as she gets out.

Sorry to say it, but the best way isn't the easiest way... for you that is. If you want to do whats best for her, support her, make her feel good and loved, but dont punish or break her down, and dont send her off somewhere to make her feel like you dont care and wanted to get rid of her and make her feel betrayed.

Why not ask people here how many of them felt betrayed when they got shipped off? This is about them... they should be the ones you talk to, not someone selling the program to you.

Also, if you talk to an edcon or someone else selling a program again, ask them for some FACTS, not just statements and assertions they cant back up.

We sent our daughter to a small Christian boarding school.

If you are interested, I would love to share our experience with you.

As a parent, I know the difficulty that goes with a decision of this magnitude.  I would encourage you to exhaust every possible community resource.

What type of school does she currently attend?  Is there any possiblity of changing school districts?

I don't mean to digress, and I actually have no first hand info on the program you mentioned, but I do have a heart for troubled kids and their experiences.

Being a person of faith, I too believe that God can help our children.  But, they have to be ready and willing to recieve that help.

Why does God have rely on coersive behavior modification that athiest communists pioneered and perfected in the first place?

I don't know about you, but the God I believe in doesn't require brainwashing to work. And any 'God' that does isnt much of one at all.

Though, to be fair, programs prey on the faith of others all the time, and work by manipulating others emotionally to create faith in the program themself.

To the Original Poster - watch out for false prophets, or people saying "jesus" and "christian" to advertise themselves to people such as yourself.

Again, I ask, what is wrong with the kid, and why do you need a program to fix it?

Wow thanx for the warm greeting Anon.  At least I come to learn and attempt to open my mind to the other side of the industry.  At least I don't hide behind a mask of anonymity.

Niles~
I didn't say that God relies on coersive techniques.  In fact, on the contrary, I believe that His methods are anything but coercive.

Secondly, let's not confuse God, with abusive programs who do therapy "in God's name".  And as you pointed out, let others not be drawn in to programs that flaunt "churchey terms" to appeal to a parents desire to place kids in a "Christian" school versus a secular school.

What I DID say was that God CAN help our children ... IF they are ready for the help.  And isn't that true of any type of help?  One must receive the help to have it be helpful.

I went to the Family School from 95-97....although the school may help for some, it surely hurts countless others more than it helps. Please do NOT send your child to this place.  The slim possibility that it will change her for the better permanently is not worth the almost certain fact that she will have nightmares and serious trauma for many years.  I don't know your specifics, so I can't speak for you or your daughter.  However, feel free to contact me at djjone5ny@hotmail.com  (my story is the one mentioned in the above post.)
