Yes counselors are on site...in-experienced counselors with no license according to staff and the State of Georgia. The only person who was licensed by the State of Georgia was Chris Allen and he is gone.
They are counseling without State licensure..period..they are not a "therapeutic "
boarding school according to the ORS and their attorneys "Quirk and Quirk", who may I add, are the entity that states "therapeutic" term is only for marketing purposes..

As if anyone would believe anything posted about HLA on this site.

Of course therapy is provided. If counselors are on-site and therapy is occurring, therapy is being provided.  I have no concern about their marketing.  I have no opinion on HLA one way or another since I don't know anything about it from firsthand experience. Sort of like most of you- the ones who have experience don't have recent experience."

If you know nothing about HLA, and have no first hand experience why are you here? Why even try and discount our experiences?

Are you hoping for the chance to become a lapdog?

Or are you really just that dumb?

Im thinking a little of both, obviously you have an agenda for being here, but at the same time its obvious you can barely read.

1. You dont know who most of us are. Since you dont know who we are how can you know when our experiences took place? Furthermore how much difference would it make either way?

2. No one is questioning that therapy goes on there, we are just postulating that "bad therapy" goes on there. Bad therapy by unliscensed quacks some of who are sadist.

3. Are you really going to claim that HLA is a traditional boarding school that only markets as a theraputic one? Anyone who has ever set foot in HLA knows that isnt the case.

Oh wait....you never have.

Just another example of the kids suffering for the shortcomings of HLA's management.

How did you find that out?"

I was told by an employee.  I think maybe I'll give it a few weeks to see what happens and then check directly with the lenders.  If I don't get back to you in a timely fashion, just remind me via PM or check for yourself and report the results.

When I was told this it didn't surprise me because there was an investigator who was looking into the same issue for another lender several months ago.

But let's check and verify because this was a "single source" piece of information.

And to my personal troll: You're a loooong way from Wilkes-Barre aren't you?  How sad that you find time to troll when you could be exploring the beautiful bay area.  You should get out more often.

All inclusive tuition?
« Reply #21 on: July 26, 2006, 12:33:32 PM »
It no longer includes necessary equipment for kids while at Ridge Creek.
Parents are now billed around $900 for the equipment,  even though
parents have been led to believe that tution is transferrable to Ridge
Creek.  Given that the kids who go to Ridge Creek from HLA go at the
recommendation of their counselor(s) parents are being soaked from
both ends.  I know for a fact that kids are most often issued
used equipment.  Even if they were given all new stuff, I find it difficult
to believe that boots and a sleeping bag cost $900.  My son was issued
boots from Wal-mart which cost $40.00 at most.  He wanted to wear his
own good boots but was not allowed to;  this probably contributed to
the severity of his blisters.
How many more ways can they think of to nickel and dime parents?

Extra Costs
« Reply #22 on: July 27, 2006, 12:55:20 AM »
Parents are now being charged almost $100 in transportation fees to have their child taken to doctor visits because none of the doctors will come to the campus. Oh, and that $100 is per student - doesn't matter how many children are being taken to the doctor.

Why won't doctors come to campus? Is this exorbitant fee designed to discourage doctor visits?

Hidden Lake Academy, after operating 12 years unlicensed will now be monitored by the state. Access information on the Federal Class Action lawsuit against HLA here: http://www.fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?t=17700

We can't seem to get a straight answer on that one.....

The transportation fee just makes HLA money. Normally at least 4 to 6 students at a time are taken to the doctor. Each student is billed for the transportation fee - it's not pro-rated among the students going to the same doctor. When asked why it's not pro-rated the response was, "That's the policy."

4 to 6 students going to the doctor adds up to $400 - $600 in transportation fees. That fee doesn't include the charge for the doctor's visit.  I guess they've discovered the proverbial "Cash Cow".

I know from experience that when you are told "That's the policy" at Hidden Lake what the person is really saying is...

"I know this policy makes absolutely no sense what so ever, but this is how Len Buccellato wants it done and it is his school so there is nothing I can do about it"

I think you hit this one on the head with the "cash cow" analysis.

HLA is looking to make money wherever they can (as well as save it).  They do this by laying off their staff (about 30% this year by most accounts), discontinuing health insurance for staff, eliminating overtime and charging extra (raising tuition and not providing "all inclusive" pricing anymore) for everything.

Look, what's the one thing that no sane parent is going to refuse to pay for?  You got it, a doctor visit for a "sick" kid.  Before, when HLA was not profiting from medical treatment kids were routinely denied medical care.  Now that HLA is making several hundred dollars profit on every trip to the doctor, kids are being shuttled back and forth almost every day.

When HLA wasn't getting paid, kids were "manipulating."  Now that HLA is handsomley profiting from doctor's visits kids are "really sick" and not "manipulating."

HLA is a shameless operation designed for one solitary purpose: to enrich its owner.  If you can't see this, then you might as well beat your head against a rock because you're already brain-dead.

the entry unifrom fee of 1400 that was to cover new uniforms that cost about 350 tops nad the rest for equipment wildernsss items, that means hla is making 400% profit on uniforms and now charging ridge creek 900 fee for stuff that i bet costs 250  wow another 350% profit
