I am in Texas, my ex husband just put our thirteen year old son there. I did not consent, I do not know anything about the place. Any input from past residents, parents or employees? Please help me gather info. I did not get to speak to him even before he went.

Was he legally permitted to do this under the terms of any custody agreement you might have had?

Call a lawyer. Now.

They are guilty of some of the most unspeakably cruel conduct perpetrated by an institution for children in the last 15 years. They left one kid in a freezing hellhole called the hobbit for six months. There is sworn testimony in court to that effect. Your child's is partially controlled by other underaged troubled kids who give him consequences that result in a loss of privileges and lenghten his stay. These kid overseers may be sociopathic, mentally ill, or sadistic.  There is no prison in the country where an inmate has that kind of power over another inmate, much less a troubled child. These people transfer kids out of the country where they will be beyond the protection of US laws to Tranquility Bay which use methods of discipline that are torture such as shoulder dislocation and daily spraying of pepper spray. The WWASPS disregard of the standards of conduct in a civilized society are a testament to the dispicability of the organization that has custody of your son. am You son is better off in a detention center than where he is now, which at least has the oversight of state and federal regulation. You son is up there feeling abandoned, frightened, and very very hurt. Other posts and posters will fill you in on their experiences. There isn't any time to waste. GET HIM OUT NOW. Pull him now. Do not wait. Especially since he is only 13. This is coming from someone who was thrown in at the age of 12, and did not leave until she was 16 1/2. And that was only because I ran away.

It's way too traumatic for such a young kid to go through. He will only become more hardened, and if anything worse. Not only that, but the majority of the kids there are 15-16. They love to pick on the younger kids.

There has to be another way. Find it.

As far as my research goes SCL is amongst the worst facilities, however it's the one I have the most reliable data on.
Email me and I'll tell you what I know.

see the children with their boredom and their vacant stares. God help us all if we\'re to blame for their unanswered prayers,

I am surprised that you did not know this Niles! I was sent to Heritage School in Provo, Utah from 1-86 until 5-89 then straight to Cross Creek Manor from 5-89 until 2-90.
