Theme song for the anti-industry
« on: April 21, 2006, 04:59:00 PM »
have you ever considered a theme song for the anti-industry movement? Post up a song you think would be good... Like Trapt - Headstrong... my personal favorite

Rebels of the Sacred Heart - By Flogging Molly

"Rebels Of The Sacred Heart"

Now I`m aimin' for heaven
But probably wind up down in hell
Where upon this alter I will hang my guilt ridden head
But it`s time I`ll take before I begin
Three sheets to the wind, Three sheets to the wind
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Terrified of the open road
Yeah, where it leads ya never know
But rest assured he`ll be on you back
Yeah, the Holy Ghost through his tounges in black
As th band dog howls and the young girl cries
The blessed virgin in her proud dad`s eye
The albatross hangin' round your neck
Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Genuflect all you refugees who fled the land
Now on guilt you kneel
And say a prayer for those left behind
From beyond the pale to the Northern sky
So you saved your shillins and your last six pence
Cause in God`s name they built a barbed wire fence
Be glad you sailed for a better day
But don`t forget there`ll be hell to pay
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Reserrection no protection all things life must be
Ah no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Now bless me father for I have sinned
But it`s the same old story again and again and again
Ah well, such is the bread of an everyday life
From mornin' to noon to this shadowless-night
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

How far is Heaven

by Salvador
 &
Los Lonely Boys.

Save me from this prison,
Lord, help me to get away. . .
(How far is Heaven?)
'Cause only you can save me now,
From this misery. . .
(How far is Heaven?)

Well I've been lost in my own place,
And I'm getting' weary. . .
(How far is heaven?)
And I know that I need to change -
My ways of living. . .
(How far is heaven?)
Lord, can you tell me?

I've been locked up, way too long -
In this crazy world. . .
(How far is heaven?)
I just keep on prayin',
Lord - I just keep on livin'
(How far is heaven?)
Oh, Lord, can you tell me?
(How far is heaven?)
I just gotta know how far. . .
(How far is heaven?)
Oh, Lord, can you tell me?

TU QUE ESTAS EN ALTO CIELO
(YOU THAT'S IN A HIGHER PLACE)
ECHAME TU BENDICION
(SEND ME DOWN A BLESSING)

'Cause I know there's a better place -
than this place I'm livin'. . .
(How far is heaven?)
So I just got to show some faith,
And just keep on givin'. . .
(How far is heaven?)
Oh, Lord can you tell me?
(How far is heaven?)
I just gotta know how far!
(How far is heaven?)
Oh, Lord, can you tell me?
(How far is heaven?)
I just gotta know how far!
I just wanna know how far!
How far?

I got a better one... OPIATE by TOOL.

"Opiate"

Choices always were a problem for you.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
what you need is someone strong to guide you..
like me, like me, like me, like me

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me .
Now don't you judge or question.
You are broken now ,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.

My Gods will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you.

[x2]
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life now
Open my eyes and blind me with your light

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me .
Now don't you judge or question.
You are broken now ,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.

[x2]
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life now.
Open my eyes, blind me with your light now.

Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.

My Gods will
becomes me.
When he speaks,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you

(Note to Karen.... Maynard (the singer for TOOL) isnt Anti Religion, or Anti Jesus - hes actually quite fond of the guy. He just doesnt like how religion gets between people and god... and thast what this song is about. Then again, its pretty pertinant to programs, now innit?)

Pertinent to programs? If you say so Niles

I posted the song I did, because the first time I heard it I thought of the kids in TB.

Its done to a kind of latin beat - I actually think it sounds a little bit Rege when Salvador does it (my favortie version) and it just brought to mind the kids in the programs when I heard it.

You really should listen to it before you judge it unworthy. The music adds a great deal to the "message".

Never called it unworthy...

But then again, TOOLS song is about cults. How's that not programmish?

Sounds like what most program parents think right there...

What they try to get the kids and parents to believe... that everyones destined to be dead/insane/injail, and only they can fix you.

y helo thar... sounds like most head honchos in programs, or cults. The "rape you" part has more to do with what they REALLY do, not what they explicitly say.

Quote

Thats not literal, its sarcastic... if you heard the song its more like how Id say Jesus Christ if I dropped a hammer on my toe or blew a tire out. Hes referring to the culties/programmies.[ This Message was edited by: Nihilanthic on 2006-04-22 11:35 ]

OH I see how it can fit Niles. And OverLords suggestion as well. But I like mine better

Ya know I am really not up on the "newer music". I'm quite stuck in the 70's. So I'm at a bit of a disadvantage. But I do really like the Heaven song - and I did think of the kids stuck in the programs (TB in particular) the moment I first heard it.
So for me, personally, it seems like the perfect program kid's anthem. I do realize many of the kids themselves would disagree.

IMO the songs just a little too rosey and bubbley to be applicable to Tranquility Bay. Maybe after alls said and done, and this is just something people read about like the holocaust and its a made-for-kids movie (gotta shield em from what we used to do to em, right?) on Disney, sure, but imho its just too damn vaseline-on-the-lens for the reality going on right now.

Know what I mean? Its not like God is going to send a tsunami or hurricane at TB - and even if one somehow did wash the facility away and leave the children alive and uninjured, theyd just be shipped somewhere else. I'm not to fond of prayin' and prayin' regarding this - because if something happens it will most assuredly be the actions of people.

Whether people like me and you are driven by god or not is up to your beliefs, of course  but until I see Gabriel giving me instructions in... er, person (in angel?) or smashing up the WWASPS offices ala the last scene in Dogma? Im just not fond of a song Id expect to hear on the 700 club, ok?

Why limit it to one?
We could have a collection of 'program' tunes.

Now that's a good idea Deb.

Niles - I guess it might be a tad bit "rosy" - but its a very good thing if these kids are able to maintain some degree of optimism of sprit. The lyrics themselves are often expressed by theses kids writings.

Heres a couple more I like, that could be meant for the kids - although not especially "program" songs. . .

Acrobat

Don't believe what you hear
Don't believe what you see
If you just close your eyes
You can feel the enemy
When I first met you girl/boy
You had fire in your soul
What happened your face of meltin snow?
Now it looks like this. . .

And you can swallow
Or you can spit
You can throw it up
Or choke on it
And you can dream
So dream out loud
You know that your time is coming 'round
So don't let the bastards grind you down

No, nothing makes sense
Nothing seems to fit
I know you'd hit out
If you only knew who to hit
And I'd join the movement
If there was one I could believe in
Yeah I'd break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in. . .
'Cause I need it now

To take the cup
To fill it up
To drink it slow
I can't let you go -

I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that -

And you can dream
So dream out loud
And don't let the bastards grind you down

Oh, it hurts baby
What are we going to do? Now it's all been said
No new ideas in the house and every book has been read

And I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that
And you can dream
So dream out loud
And you can find
Your own way out
And you can build
And I can will
And you can call
I can't wait until
You can stash
And you can seize
Responsibilities
And I can love
And I can love
And I know that the tide is turning 'round
So don't let the bastards grind you down

The Fly

It's no secret that a friend is someone who lets you help
It's no secret that a liar won't believe anyone else

They say a secret is something you tell one other person
So I'm telling you, child

It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success

Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about their grief

Oh, yeah!
It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploded 'cause of one man's lie
Look, I gotta go, yeah I'm running outta change

There's a lot of things, if I could I'd rearrange

U2 / ACHTUNG BABY

On the Turning Away
Pink Floyd

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won?t understand
Don?t accept that what?s happening
Is just a case of others? suffering
Or you?ll find that you?re joining in
The turning away

It?s a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it?s shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we?re all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It?s not enough just to stand and stare -

Is it only a dream that there?ll be
No more turning away?
