Now of these parents I only really dealt with maybe 10 ultra rich parents. I could name the grandson of a major professional sports franchise owner and he was the wealthiest.

Leme guess, Huizenga?

Seriously, though, you're a good egg, Waygookin.

Look over the revolutionary improvements and discoveries in education and remediation over the last 20 years or so. What are they bragging about? Well, they're bragging about school->work programs that let kids out of their cages for a few hours a week to get a little practice living in the real world. "It's a miracle!" they say. "We have to spend millions, no billions, recreating something close to a reasonable facimili of the real world inside the school world!"

And in the area of dealing with the more mysanthropic reprobate kind a kids, I keep hearing about two methods that seem to have some positive effect. One has to do w/ sending a reasonably well educated, stable person into the family home and life once in awhile to offer advice. The other they call mentoring, which amounts to a formalized, buracratized, certified and extremely expensive arrangement whereby kids get to hang out with adults who are not professional educators.

Stone soup, anyone? Newtie may have been a narrow minded little asshole on most issues. But he was right about one thing. Abolish the department of education. They do nothing but suck down the resources we might otherwise spend on our kids while doing everyting humanly possible to prevent anyone from learning anything worthwhile.

There is no honest living to be made teaching and reforming other people's children. That is the sacred, intimate and ongoig domain of family, friends and community. You just can't farm it out for pay. And really, what kind of sick bastard would want to?

(see Sophistry)

I would not let my children go to SW anymore than I would let them sleep in Michael Jackson's bed. I don't care if he was aquitted, it just ain't right.

They were scared confused sheep who would just about do anything that we asked them to do.

Yup. It sucks to be a kid and tell your parents you are being treated like shit but they won't believe you, or care. In time they will love the program more than you. Thanks for offering your perspective, good luck with finding what you are looking for.
