I propose a solution- we all write our stories up or what we've seen, ...we submit them all to Child Protective Services in the respective states...

Please give me your stories.  I will honor your complete anonymity, but I will also reach the proper sources, and with impact we will find change.   And I have my own cause - that is my son, Sam.  I understand if you are afraid, cautious - I am too.  Email me.  I am for real.

Child protective services in some states (*cough*New Jersey*cough*) are so inept that they actually LOSE foster children. (Not to mention outsource their calling center to India.)

I have a suspicion that they have their incompetent hands full at the moment.

Sadly I don't hold out too much hope for CPS either. And that is sad because they are there to protect the kids.

Me niether, I have little faith in CPS, but once submitted we could hold the gov't respoinsible for negligence and sue their butts of if they are ignored.  If we are inactive we won't accomplish zip, but at least teh ball will be in their court.  Silence = death.

We could also send stories to Congress too?  If their level of ineptitute is that great we should sue!  They are our stories and we should use the power they yield alone...

http://www.unmarriedamerica.org/emancip ... letter.htm

YOU CAN ALSO SHARE YOUR STORY with Dr. Pinto who is submitting them to Congress...ask her to send it also to CPS- THEN WE CAN SUE IF INVESTIGATION NOT DONE and other's contiue to be harmed

ConcernedParent:

Where are you from? Why would be just forward our stories on to you? You are annonymous... just like most on this site. How could you expect anyone here to just trust you... When Maia looked for info, she clearly stated who she was and her purpose. She did not hide behind a screen name, etc. If you truly are interested in helping, then you would provide more info...

I agree with that last post 100%. How do we know whose side you are on?

f you were never in a program, or a parent of a child in a program, then you have no business posting here.

I have the same concerns as you - how do I know what side you are on.  I have reached out to other sources, have responded via email to others with my sons story (which by the way, occcured in 2005, in Samoa, and I, unlike most of you, can still sue under the statute of limitations).  There is a lot of complaining going on here, and rightfully so, but I have yet to see posters here who intend to take action.

It does not matter to me if you trust me.  And quite frankly, the only stories I need are those from Coral Reef Academy 2005/2006.  My suggestion to all of you is that you channel this rage into something productive - make changes for the teenagers this year.  For starters, someone should figure out a way for this forum to pop up page one when one types in certain key words - teen residential treatment, teen rehab, struggling teens etc.   Reach parents when we are in decision mode - if I had even one tidbit of the information I now have, this tragedy would have never occured.

And, by the way, Maia had no need for anonymity - she is neither a victim nor in litigation....very different situation.

Funny, I just said something about this on another thread (the one about being disappointed with "Help and Any Cost").  Here's my idea: instead of sending our stories to CPS, lets put them together and publish a book.  We need about 50 stories and a trustworthy project coordinator.  Anyone interested?

I don't know. I am not sure why you feel you need anonymity. Something just does not seem right. If you feel so strongly about your cause, so much so that you are willing to take other stories on - why the anonymity. You are not going to find to many trusting people here. Too many have been burned.

I am sorry if your son had a bad experience. Is he home with you now?? Are you working through all of this? I read in one post that there where you said there was a custody thing or divorce situation. I would have to go back and look. I hope he is with you.

I don't think individual stories would work, because they are not put into a proper context within the teen help industry. Maybe a survey done by an independent source, which I have heard murmurings about, but haven't seen any action on.

I agree, I don't think a book is best idea- perhaps that's a project to work on the side but I think that filing with CPS and Congress and, whoever would like and feel comfortable, presenting them to the press... who knows... but I just am not sure that many people would be willing.  I know people passionate who have helped in other capacities with this issue who have not been able to get it out on paper...and they understand how important and useful it would be.  If we can all do that and have it handy we would have great deal of leverage-- but it's about the numbers I think.

I know Dr. Allison Pinto is already collecting them to submit to Congress and has quite a few,  we could use more stories and signature however, so if you haven't contaced her please do so. IT's SO important!  Sign on to the letter to Congress or submit your story
apinto@fmhi.usf.edu

Curious, writing about your experience isn't easy...how many people have actually done it? Even a few statements would be useful...

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Yeah, I figured the trust thing would be an issue, along with the fact that people are often times uncomfortable with publicizing their experiences.  It's a very personal matter.  Oh well, there's no harm in throwing around a few ideas for the purpose of activism against child and teen abuse.
