In the first open letter, who or what exactly is the Dean of Cincinnati?

Forget my question. It's a username. I had thought that it might be an official title for a position in city government, which would have made it an exciting letter.

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Well I've seen the Channel 9 spot.

Not much to see, it was pretty short.

You really have to tune in and put up with the logo to get it going.  After a while it will start, and you'll see the logo again while they cut for commercial.  The KHK piece is in the third segment.

IMHO, this is a watered down sequel to the original expose` they did on KHK a few months ago.  Hagit Limor is once again reporting, and does refer to the original piece at the end of the report.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to capture all of this due to a downed machine.  Maybe someone else can rip this and put it up?

Also... for those of you who can see it... check out the "motivating"... is it just me, or does this look like something your high school football team used to do?

My advice is: invest in Kentucky Fried Peking Duck franchises.

Hagit did an excellent job reporting on the KHK protest. I'm sure time constraints limited how much of the protestor's interviews she could actually get on the air. Even though the piece on the protest was short, I beleive any publicity about protests at this point is bad for KHK and I welcome any time the media is able to devote to the controversy. Also, I have heard from a couple people I know in the Cincy area that watched, starting at 5pm, the story was repeatedly plugged before it actually aired during the 6pm broadcast. I was told that all the build up before the piece aired helped it come across as a big story. Thanks Hagit & WCPO!

Well, now I've finally been able to watch it (hours ago, but been busy w/ other things) I can't really complain. I couldn't volunteer for an interview myself cause 1) I hadn't boned up on the details like Wm had and 2) I was so doggone tired by 4pm Friday that I could hardly string together a lucid sentance on the spot.

I wish they would have recorded or caught some of the ppl driving by honking, cheering and waving. Surprisingly, or not, some of the school bus drivers did that. After the broadcast, I went over and talked to Hagit. She asked me how I thought it went and I was just saying that. Then this big white pick up truck comes by and lays down a perfect cloud of smoke on us. I just can't tell you how impressed I was! I'm not kidding, it looked like he'd done this a time or two before; maybe to olddruggiefriends or to other splits, pull offs and fuckups.

So I turned back around and said "and then there are those who aren't too happy with us."

I think the pub helps any way you slice it. But this is a complicated and extraordinary story and it takes some focused interest and extraordinary evidence to tell it. We have a growing hill of evidence. I'm sure there are mountains more. But this is going to take some time.

I think we have to have part of this conversation in the language of infotainment, part in jaberwokee and part in Entish; "It is a lovely language, but it takes a very long time to say anything in it, because we do not say anything in it, unless it is worth taking a long time to say, and to listen to."--Tree Beard

Or, by No American native lore, it takes a thousand voices to tell just one story.

Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself
--Jimmy Carter

February 10: Kids Helping Kids Protest

Reported and Web Produced by:
Hagit Limor

A group of protesters held a vigil outside a controversial drug treatment program in Milford Friday evening.

The I Team took you behind the locked doors of the program, Kids Helping Kids, in November.

11/13/05 Kids Helping Kids report

Friday's protest was held on the sidewalks along Branch Hill Guinea Pike outside of the Kids Helping Kids facility. Protestors shook their signs at parents who were visiting their children.

"I agree with the treatment, I just disagree with their methods and I think they're very harmful," said protestor Kris Flannery.

"I was in Kids Helping Kids 22 years ago in 1983. It was an abusive facility then and I'm concerned of the abuse reports that are coming out of there now," said protestor Richard Moon.

Children's parents have chosen this program to help them kick drugs.

"We are a strong program. I won't deny that," said Penny Walker, Kids Helping Kids Executive Director.

But the strong program gets mixed reviews from clients.

"I have a chance to get my life back," said one teen.

"I feel like I've been trying to deprogram myself for years," said another client.

Some complain Kids Helping Kids isolates clients by using strange tactics to gain obedience to the program.

But the director says the program works for kids who have failed before.

"I don't think we're brainwashing them. We're not trying to control their minds. We're trying to give them control," said Walker. "We're trying to empower kids."

The state has investigated but found no violations.

The I Team called Kids Helping Kids Friday afternoon and got this statement:

"Kids Helping Kids has an excellent track record of results with a very challenging population.
The organization undergoes a rigorous accreditation process to ensure its quality and we are proud of our work," said Barbara Towner, Marketing/Communications Director.
